We do have a lot of history playing players out of position. Hope we can put that to bed! Horses for coarse!

One of the most frustrating thing about being a Vale fan is watching manager after manager do this.

How hard is it to pick a formation, then sign at least 2 players for each position?

sadly I 100% agree but the biggest problem is the long contracts that a lot of players (loft, jones and others have) and the debt we have and his ridiculous five and a half years contract and we have no wriggle room to buy players and I fear the future

    Nah.

MH and DM confirmed we'll have a "very competitive budget" for next season.

I took this as money to buy players, money for good wages and money to pay off some of the dossers.

Where does this notion that Harratt is superb come from for some people? He works hard, sure, but he averaged a goal every 6 games in League Two for us and has scored 1 goal for Huddersfield since in the league. "Gagging for success" is complete hyperbole. That's not even mentioning he clearly has bad habits off the pitch.

I think it's from short-sighted Vale fans that just remember his assist + goal in the playoff semi and final.

If we signed someone else with the exact same stats there would up uproar on here.

We should start a thread of which former vale players are fans saying we should sign.

So far, I have seen Vale fans suggesting that we should sign James Gibbons & Aidan Stone and the season only ended 5 days ago.

The fascination with ex players is bizarre

I don't think most Vale fans watch a lot of football so they aren't able to suggest anyone other than ex-players, 'big names' or players that played a blinder against us.

I rarely see any other signing suggestions not fitting those 3 categories on here.

  5. It's very simple for me.

Cole Stockton would be a great shout. With Burton staying up, he's clearly surplus to requirements there. And surely we could offer a better package than Barrow.

    There is our first striker.

Then we need to cherry pick someone from another smaller club, such as Will Evans or Klaidi Lolos. Carol to fund this to correct her mistakes.

    There is our 2nd striker.

Then you've got Dipepa 3rd choice, and Loft 4th choice.

I think Uche will reject us personally, but let's see.

I’d bet my life that James Wilson comes out on top in that respect as well!

Uche could play all night and not score.

Give me Wilson for ten minutes, half fit, over Uche for 90 minutes fully fit.

Yeah. Got bored, had a look.

    Since the 19/20 season:

Wilson 8,368 minutes (works out at 92 x 90min games). Around 1 goal every 3 games.

Uche 6,751 minutes (works out at 75 x 90min games). Around 1 goal every 6 games.

I don't think anyone at the club looks at things like this. It's very worrying.

    James Wilson. 28 years old.

    Last 4 seasons. 134 games. 31 goals.

    Uche Ikpeazu. 29 years old.

    Last 4 seasons. 85 games. 12 goals.

If Wilson is classed as always injured and we have let him go, then Christ only knows what Uche is classed as and we are offering him a contract!!!

    Now make that make sense.

Is this the same for minutes played?

1 "appearance" could be a 1 minute time waster sub or a full 90 minutes.

Not sure about bowman he’s 32 now although knows the lower leagues well. Can’t be any worse than what we’ve got. 1 in 5 striker throughout his career whereas Uche is 1 in 6 & Loft 1 in 8. Maybe nab Nevitt from Crewe? Had a decent season for them in that league. Think we were rumoured to be after him a couple of seasons ago weren’t we? He’s 1 in 4 for goals return in his career & a good age

Nevitt is a really odd one for Crewe.

0 goals in 21 games last season.

18 goals in 48 games this season.

Maybe there is hope for Loft yet?

  9. We might have to write off next season, and hopefully we'll finish mid-table before releasing these dossers.

Hoping some of the maligned players might get a new lease of life. Try Sang and Grant in their natural positions of CM for example.

Still need around 6 FIRST TEAM signings. And if the budget won't stretch, then Carol has to fund this to correct her mistakes.

  10. Would like to see a manager show some common sense and use Uche properly.

Gareth Ainsworth used him properly when he got 6 goals in 33 in the Championship with Wycombe, playing well enough for Middlesborough to shell out £750,000 on him.

4-2-3-1. Uche as the focal point. 3 L1 level creators behind him. Golden boot winner 2024/25.

Moore is up there with one of the worst managers I've seen. His tactics and substitutions were poor. The argument of inheriting a poor squad is a weak one when you consider he had 17 games left, including games against relegation rivals,in and around us. Apart from Burton and Bristol we only won 2 games.

17 games,10 points. Reverted back to 3-5-2 and played a MF at RWB last game of the season. Shocking.

Lowe,Grant,Smith,Lopata, Iacovitti,Debrah....even Ojo. With his experience could Moore not figure out how to show some of them how to play FB instead of playing Massey,Sang,Shorrock and Plant at WB?

We've gone down cos we're not good enough. Moore left Chislett out too much. When Garrity was back I'd have preferred him up front and play Walters/Weir alongside Ojo(even Plant started in MF at Ipswich last year) ...to at least offer a goal threat. We scored in 7/17 games.

5 more years of his waffling tripe. Well done Carol.

If a team is losing by employing the same tactics week in week out,why revert back to them? I'd have preferred Will Ryder in charge-at least we tried under him.

I definitely agree with the fullback/wingback argument as it frustrated me too.

We could have shoehorned a more solid looking back 4 of something like:

    Debrah - Smith - Lopata - Yak

Similar to the Pulis-ball tactics when he used to play Robert Huth at FB for example.

Defenders have that defensive instinct, wingers and midfielders don't.

Not making f all up and why is it nonsense just because you don't accept/believe it? I believe my sources over Baggers. Baggers states 'I understand ' clear as day , so yeah, it must be true and anything to the contrary is 'making things up and is nonsense' emoji849.png

Baggaley is more in the know than you. So I know who I'd believe.

He's commented on our budget most seasons. Every league club is privy to the salary spend of other clubs - it's a sheet of paper with all 24 budgets on it, just without any names.

It's been said over and over we had an upper league two budget in league 1. It simply wasn't enough revenue to stabilise us, especially with getting promoted a season earlier. Hence why Carol and Kevin have been putting 1 mill of their own cash in for the last two seasons.
Its obvious cutbacks and penny watching was put in place. I think someone said the amount of players got in on Flitcrofts watch, it was a crazy amount , how many were a success, how many did we actually pay for? Lofty I think for 75k emoji848.png emoji849.pngemoji3.png that's it . They tried on a shoestring and it bit them hard, which is why we are where we are. Which we all know about.
The club has worked on revenue streams within the club to become sustainable ie catering and packages on match days as an example.
Robbie Williams 15k a home game plus booze sales the same with the Valiants suite. Probably 50 k a home game combined . That adds upto a fair old bit over a season. All the functions, Xmas etc etc it all adds upto a multi million pound turnover, the profits will seep into the club, that's the whole point of progressing these infrastructures. Profit and sustainability for the club.
They honestly believed we would survive in league 1 and we would progress into next season.
DM not keeping us up is just the icing on the cake, we weren't talking a million points. Just a few over a relatively long period of the season. He's messed up regardless of the players he has at his disposal. We have seen it with the lack of tactics and fight and hunger instilled in the team. Imo he is already under pressure for next season.
Luckily our upper league two budget should cover things but he has a lot to prove.

Where is this nonsense coming from that "we had a L2 budget in L1".

Mike Baggaley confirmed we had a lower mid-table L1 budget.

Why are you making things up?

My worry with Moore is trying to figure out what his preferred formation is; because he doesn't seem to have one here and settled on what he did because of what he had available and the players had gotten used to (it wasn't the same setup as his previous clubs).

So, I'm praying for balance rather than a mess and trying to cover every possible place on the pitch, we'll see.

I think we are looking at 2 years minimum before coming back up, so what I'm hoping for is just better play from us next season and start building towards getting us back up.

I think it's hard to play any formation here due to the personnel signed by DF.

We can't play with wingbacks, as we don't have any wingbacks. The only natural one we have is Clarke, which is why Sang, Grant, Massey, Plant have all had to play out of position.

And we can't play a back 4, because we don't have any full backs apart from Clarke again.

  15. That's because that's not the way he plays. Someone posted on here some time ago that Gasheads said he's best playing on the break with the ball played down the chanell and trying to turn players. Think he did this against us before.
We're just not using him at what he's best at. Sounds a common theme at Vale Park right now.
Also, I'm with @Brian Johnson I think (from what I've heard Moore is going to be given a lot more to play with in the budget.
First we'll know if Monday when the retained list comes out, eh...
IF Carol does want us straight back up then, like Wrexham and Stockport, we'll need to splash the cash

Has it been confirmed that the retained list is out on Monday?

I'm sure in one of Mike Baggaley's "Valiant" articles he said we had a mid-table League One budget this season.

Every club in the league gets notified of the budgets of others clubs, just without the club names.

If that was the case, DF has clearly completely and utterly squandered it.

    Just found it.

It was a league 2 squad on a league 2 budget. That’s the reality. We never kicked on with the increase in quality hoped for. The real tragedy of this season is that it is hard to see how we will convincingly consistently compete in league 1 without a serious amount of increased revenue or more debt.

The loan system is set up that 12 month loans can be recalled or sent back in January. Those are the rules which can benefit both clubs for different reasons. Vale didn't have a choice, you cannot demand to have a loan player for 12 months without an option for him to be recalled.

It's a simple and obvious solution, one that yet again we didn't show any common sense over:

Loans should supplement the squad. Not build the team around them.

We were on a hiding to nothing.

They do well, they get recalled in Jan. They do badly, we're stuck with a player we don't want.

  20. This love in is getting a bit ridiculous.

Yes, he was amazing for a few months.

But he wasn't ever our player.

People acting like he came through our youth system and got sold to Sheff.

We get NOTHING for any success he might have now.

    He's gone. Move on.
