I need to look at the economics where there are significant differences. But as someone who does have a vote I'm now unhappy with Sunak because he says things in a way that indicate a lack of political judgement. They are a gift to Labour when he tries to trash Liz Truss. No need for it, just highlight the differences maturely. Think Liz Truss is pulling away at this stage and the public will appreciate her background- comprehensive school to Oxford etc.

Posh comprehensive school in posh part of Leeds which she tried to tell us was full of disadvantaged kids.

I am not going to change my plans because of this scheme. That said, since I have retired I can go to more games, so I will do. Until my wife applies sanctions. She doesn't like football, but if she did she'd support Newcastle United.

    Wise woman!

Context, we had come back from having lost a chance of direct promotion at the beginning of April, nearly 3-0 down at Swindle, 3-1 down in a penalty shootout, and then a trip to Wembley. I would not have been surprised at ladies running round without their tops on.

I’m not arguing that it was a hugely exciting time. I just don’t get why you have to show the excitement by invading the pitch.

Your point about Newcastle is a one off situation whereby Newcastle were long since safe from relegation and basically had nothing to celebrate bar a decent end of season result. It would seem a bit odd to storm the pitch to celebrate a lower mid table finish in the league wouldn't it?

I can guarantee that geordies have invaded the pitch many times over the years when they've had something to actually celebrate.

If you think the Newcastle fans had nothing to celebrate last season then you have no understanding at all about what went on there last season.

Also, I was at the game when they won the Championshion title under Benitez and again, there was no pitch invasion.

I’m not holding Newcastle fans up as paragons of virtue at all. I’m just pointing out that pitch invasions are not a requirement for celebration and can, as against Swindon, lead to problems for the club.

Whilst I understand what you are saying, Wembley is not our ground and it's virtually impossible to get on the pitch there. There's no real comparison.

Micky Adams and team could quite easily have waited for the fans to disperse back to the stands and then come out.

I think you're being a bit too precious about this.

Virtually impossible to get on the pitch. That is exactly the point. Did that affect your enjoyment of the moment?  Did you think “oh sh** I wish I could get on the pitch.”  The players had a wonderful time celebrating because there were no fans mucking about on the pitch.

Were you at the Wycombe game?  If not you have no idea what you’re talking about with respect.

Have we forgotten Hillsborough?  A tragedy not caused by the fans on the day but by fans in years before that led to those ridiculous fences being erects around pitches all over the country.

I’m not being precious at all.  I was at Newcastle’s last home game. The atmosphere in the stadium was electric. They murdered Arsenal 2-0, could have been 6. At the end of the match 99% of the fans stayed in the ground while the players and their families did a lap of honour. Not a single fan went on the pitch. We’re they being “too precious” do you think?

If anybody went on the pitch with the intent of harming opposition players or fans or generally doing something that they shouldn't, then I'd agree with you. But there's very little evidence of any wrongdoing apart from maybe a bit of taunting from which the Swindon players should have had the sense to walk away from and get down the tunnel.

Unfortunately, pitch invasions happen up and down the country and I see no harm in it if done for the right reasons and the right intent.

I asked someone a while back if they had gone on the pitch at Wembley. I got no reply but of course the answer was no. Were our celebrations any less enthusiastic?

I was at Wycombe when we last won promotion. Micky Adams and the players wanted to go on the pitch and thank the fans but couldn’t because a load ran on the pitch.

Lads? Don't be sexist. Two of those in the paper were girls.

Fans going on the pitch is part of the game. It's gone on since spectators first started watching football in the 19th C. It's the fans game and we'll do what we want. The FA need to wind their necks in. Nothing much happened.

Apologies for not saying lads and lasses. Fans going on the pitch is absolutely NOT part of the game. Were you on the pitch at Wembley??

Looks like Vale have charged with failing to control the crowd. Not sure what penalty they might incur?

At the very least it will be a hefty fine and the cost of all the legal bods we've employed to help us with this.  Well done, lads!  You must be very proud!

  10. The turnstiles themselves are operational but we were told tonight that there had been a delay in the delivery of the technology bits so we will be hand scannered in on Saturday
