Former Port Vale winger Harry McKirdy plays for crisis club Swindon Town
Released Port Vale FC player Harry McKirdy scored for Swindon Town in a pre-season friendly game this week.
Former Carlisle Utd player Harry McKirdy was one of fifteen players to be released at the end of the season by manager Darrell Clarke. His spell at Vale Park was not a success as he was deregistered from the League squad at one point after falling out of favour before returning to the squad later in the season. However, his performances were not enough to persuade Darrell Clarke to offer him a new deal.
Swindon have had a traumatic summer as protracted takeover talks have seen the club unable to add new players, lose manager John McGreal and be behind in loan payments to the local council. As a result, Swindon were forced to cancel a friendly game against Swansea City earlier in the summer.
However, there is brighter news on the horizon for Town after former owner Lee Power finally agreed to transfer shares to prospective owner Clem Morfuni. After the transfer, the Football League have given Morfuni the green light to take full control of the club following his passing of the owners’ and directors’ test.
Last night, Swindon claimed their first win of pre-season with a 3-1 win over local side Swindon Supermarine. The scorers were Harry Parsons and McKirdy who scored twice.
Another former Valiant also featured for Swindon with midfielder Anthony Grant also making an appearance in the friendly. Grant had left Swindon at the end of the season but it looks like he may be making a return to the club.
