Harry McKirdy player profile
Port Vale FC signed talented but controversial winger Harry McKirdy on a one-year deal in August 2020. The winger had impressed after training with the first-team and was brought in to replace Rhys Browne who had left the club for “personal reasons.”
McKirdy was born in London but was brought up locally where he appeared for the Stoke City youth teams. He later had spells with Aston Villa and Carlisle United as well as loan moves to Stevenage, Crewe Alexandra and Newport County. In the 2019-20 season he netted eleven goals in all competitions for Carlisle before being surprisingly released as the global pendemic forced an early end to the season.
McKirdy made his full debut in a Carabao Cup tie away at Fleetwood in September 2020. He scored his first goal in Vale colours in a 4-2 Football League trophy win over Liverpool B in November 2020.
However, his stay at Port Vale was a chequered one as he failed to earn a regular starting place and was deregistered to make way for new signings. An injury to Zak Mills saw Vale re-register the player and although he featured a little at the end of the season it was not enough to stop him being released at the end of the 2020-21 season.
