As it all seems to be doom and gloom at the moment I got to thinking about my many years following the Vale. Sure there have been relegations but there have also been promotions, Wembley appearances and a million laughs along the way. My first promotion was season 1969/70 under Gordon Lee. I remember us taking about 10,000 to Wrexham which ended 1 - 1. Of course there was the Rudgie years when we punched well above our weight for many years. For away games we always met in the Cricketers Arms Maybank on the Friday night. We would arrange where and when to meet the following morning. We always had an AA Road Map and copy of The Good Beer Guide. We would plot our route to wherever we were going via as many real ale pubs as possible. I remember one of my mates (Mosser) climbing on the roof of the train on the way to Derby, where we actually won. Sadly last year many of my old muckers passed away. The laughs, tears, successes and failures of being Vale fans together is a massive part of my life and I will no doubt bore the grandchild to death with my ramblings and reminiscences of "the good old days". Vale I lived and Vale I will die.
