Exiled in Montreal

I've been living in Montreal for the last 17 years and while I try to get back to Vale Park as often as possible (4 times this season), and spend my Saturday mornings with I follow, I still need my fix of live football.

 

Since Montreal Impact joined the MLS a few years ago I've been going to a few games a year.

 

The club is owned my a guy called Joey Saputo, a local business man, who founded the club in 1992. The club joined the MLS in 2012.

 

The team average a attendance is around 20,000 and it's a good day out, there are a few good players to watch, like Drogba a couple of years ago. The only problem is that I've started to care so if both Vale and the impact lose it makes for a pretty poor mood on a Saturday.

 

Yesterday I took my family to the game against Toronto, Impact won 1-0 in front of 26,005,(we were the 5) at the Olympic Stadium (60,000 capacity). The impact normally play at the Saputo stadium in spring & summer but it's -17c today so you don't want to be sitting in an open stadium when it is like that and the Olympic stadium has a roof.

 

You don't normally get a good away following in the mls, because of the distances involved, but Toronto were given their own corner of the stadium to house their fans which generated a good atmosphere for what they call the 401 derby.

 

Anyway this is what I do with my Saturdays because I cannot get to VP easily.
