But Vale are making up the difference so he is technically still on a championship wage... Is that what you are saying

    That’s not what is happening.

Moore was sacked by Huddersfield they then have to pay him as per any other sacking. If the original rumour is true then instead of a lump sum they are paying him weekly for 3 years. Vale have then signed him as manager for 5 years and what ever wage. We aren’t making up the difference. He will be on the full wage here and then whatever from Huddersfield. Same as David Moyes when United sacked him and he went to West Ham which i know as a fact.

Of course not! It just means due to his severance pay, he may have taken a reduced salary at Vale over a longer time frame. I’m sure the deal with Huddersfield is far more lucrative than at Vale.

I suppose it’s a bit like working and also drawing your pension which everyone is entitled to do.

I know it was a poor attempt at sarcasm. He won’t have taken a reduced salary here though. He will be getting full pay for 5 years and then whatever Huddersfield owe him

I just had an interesting chat with someone at Huddersfield town. Apparently the first 3 years of Moores contract is being paid for by Huddersfield which explains the 5 year contract we’ve handed out.

So he works for us for free? Makes no sense and won’t be true. Huddersfield probably still paying him off and we pay him his wage as normal. Same as what happened with David Moyes when he started at West Ham. Getting paid weekly by both West Ham and United.

My last word on Loft - promise.

Flitcroft, et el, knew when they bought him that just hoofing it high up to Loft was NOT his game. Ask Rovers fans, his best game is when the ball is played in the channel and he can turn a defender and attack them.  To do that he needed to get service to feet and to turn the defender - his best game was against Burton and he did that several times and bullied defenders.  Look at everyone else who played up front for us last season - we just hoofed it high at them and hoped for the best; none of them got any true service to think of.

Finally, for me, the biggest reason we went down last season is we were <ovf censored> at the back.  I lost count of the number of games where we gave 2 points away from a winning position to draw in the last 5-10 mins, or lose a strapped on draw 0-1 in the same phase of the game.  If we'd kept those dumb goals conceded in just half a dozen games we'd have sent Burton down.

Any way - looking forward to who comes in over the next week or three...

<ovf censored> at the back and even worse up front. Your never staying up when 4 strikers combined get 8 goals.

I like Ormerod but he's probably another season of regular football off making the jump.

Conn-Clarke will probably go higher than League 2.

I still think we lack a 'knitting together midfielder' - someone who is decent at everything and just sort of keeps things moving. Ojo can move the ball but isn't quick, strong, or one to win the ball very often. Garrity and Chislett both thrive in the final third. We need a Doug Loft, Micky Cummins type, imo.

I quite like Tyler Frost and Harvey Gilmour for this profile.

Based on what exactly? Are either of those good enough for a team aiming for promotion and to potentially be league 1 players? Both released by more than one league 2 side?

    V593,

I haven’t suggested that we “go into the season with him as one of our main strikers”, if you would please take a moment to read my prior posts on this topic.

Your proposed approach is simply to write off £150K-£200K from the club’s playing budget by paying up Ryan Loft’s remaining contract, since there are no takers to pick up all or a proportion of his contract.

My proposed approach is that the club continue to try to maximise our return on that £150K-£200K from the club’s playing budget, by bringing out the best in the player.

It may or may not work, but that latter approach is the only way for the club to try to gain a positive return from funds which are ALREADY invested.

I think we’ve seen his best. The best of loft we saw at Burton / Bristol. He can try but there is little ability there. That’s shown throughout his career.

I completely understand your point I really do and for other players who showed at least something I would agree. There are certain players last season that I never want to see in a vale shirt. Massey was one of them and Loft is another. Take the hit and get rid, loan him out at a % of his wage, anything. He and a couple of the others are a bad reminder of last season and I think if they were to leave it would do more positive for the vale than signings as good as Curtis.

Reece Smith at Maidenhead too. Turned 22 in April. Winger/attacking mid. 11 goals and 4 assists in a midtable team. England C international.

Can't see anything contract about his contract - I'd assume it's either up this summer or next.

Looks like a budget Jack Grealish with his haircut and low socks, but always impressed me when I've seen him. Very direct dribbler and tries to make something happen when he gets the ball.

Like I mentioned about Tolaj, I'd be amazed if he isn't on Peterborough's radar.

Has you seen Tolaj play? (Not asking in a snide way) Decent last season and nothing prior going off stats which i know you don’t like. Don’t see why everyone would be in for Tolaj but not Dipo? Both done very well recently and both struggled when in league football earlier in their career. I’d be in for both, I’m just interested as to why Tolaj seems higher rated other than the fact he’s 4 years younger? I’d imagine they’d want a decent fee like York as well

    Doha,

The unarguable fact is that Ryan Loft currently IS part of our squad throughout next season.

That may or may not change over the coming period.

As it stands, it is in everyone’s interests to give Ryan all the support we can.

I don’t think it is. The club should be doing everything to move him on. He’s had enough chances and imo we need to focus on getting some decent strikers in the club rather than wasting our time on Loft. We can’t go into the season with him as one of our main strikers having put further time and effort into attempting to make him league ready only for him not to perform again. I’ve seen more than enough to suggest this isn’t the club for him.

    Excellent points.

This is exactly why we should hope that Loft working through a long pre-season with our canny and experienced forwards coach in Lee Bradbury will bring out the best in him.

After the mutual misery of most of last season, wouldn’t it be wonderful if Loft picked up some early season goals and assists, and gained the confidence to become a valuable squad resource for the season - effectively a new signing at no additional cost.

What about in the majority of cases where this Dosent happen? We can’t go back to one player a number of years ago.

What we should be doing is prioritising some quality strikers rather than planning of how we can make Loft into a professional footballer. Didn’t see too many improvements in Loft when Moore and his coaches came in, if any at all.

Nobody will sign Lowe his legs have gone. Jones would need to prove his fitness before anyone would be interested.  Nobody is going to take a risk on someone who was only fit for 11 games last season. It might be possible to get him fit, loan him to a Conference Club, then move him on a Christmas if he plays a run of games. Then again if he's fit he isn't a bad league 2 defender and we might as well just run his contract down.

I can still see someone low down, or a non league side taking Lowe, just as we did for the experience and being a ‘good’ pro. Jones, I think he’s awful, but his long throw will always get sides interested. With a promotion to his name from this league I think some lower down or again non league may take a punt. I can’t imagine either are on as much as Grant or Loft who are the two I think we need to move on as priority

  11. 18 minutes ago, JoeB2 said:

If Jones, Loft, Grant, and Lowe are that bad, who on Earth is going to sign them?

If someone does want to sign them, why would they pay the same wages we’re paying them?

If they do want to sign them on a lower wage to reflect their ability, why would those players take a voluntary pay-cut in a short career?

The sooner we as a fanbase answer those questions, the more likely we are to accept that some, if not all, of the aforementioned will be here in 24/25.

We can’t assume we’re smarter than everyone else and some thick club won’t realise how poor they are. We’re not the main characters of football.

Always some clown out there, we signed all of them nevermind one. Issue in shifting them, loft in particular would be wages. I could imagine a low league 2 side coming in for Jones and Lowe

Yes I understand where you’re coming from but for me football is risk/reward.

Even with a bad season Bayley would still have a pretty high value. Show me another 17 year old striker with 40+ 1st team appearances. His form may come and go but he has physical traits big boys want and they will always try to develop the technical side.

Were those appearances deserved or were they because we were so short up front? He grew into the role and looked good towards the end, but let’s not forget how off the pace he was the first few matches, looking back at previous match threads, people weren’t exactly glowing to see him starting.

Personally I think we have to cash in. There is no guarantee he will do well at this level, his stock his high and I don’t think 10-15 goals in league 2 would increase it much more. Let him go, re invest and go again imo.

I think this shows that there are teams out there who want players we want shipped out

I still think the likes of Loft,Grant and Lowe will also all leave

We could end up needing 3 or 4 forwards coming in depending on what happens with Dipepa

To me it shows the Scottish prem is a really poor level.
We needed 3/4 forwards anyway, to me Uche leaving greatly increases the chances of us landing a quality forward

I aren't that bothered that Uche has gone BUT and i know it wouldn't be goals i do think League 2 defences would of struggled with his strength, he may of been ok with a couple of good quick forwards around him

I think they would have coped better than those last season. League 2 is full of big bruiser centre backs. He has no end product anyway, even if he knocked over the whole back 4, keeper and had an open goal he would still fall over the ball and miss.
