If someone slags me off mate

I'm not going to put up with it

The team got great support throughout the game today, Nippy.

That gave them the confidence to play well.

You have a great ability to post the negative aspects but after going 1-2 down we could have collapsed but didn't. Their were a number of occasions where the ball could have fell for us but didn't. The save late on from Lowe in particular was excruciating but the players didn't give up because the fans didn't give up and we got our just rewards.

Did you look at our bench when Funjo scored they were going crazy. Even the Polish lad who hasn't been here 5 minutes was dancing on crutches. This group of players genuinely care.

The only thing we need the fans to do between now and season end is to vocally support the players through thick and thin and stay together. That's what will keep us up.

If you want to vocally protest then do us, fans and players, a favour and stay at home to do it.

The club has a great owner and we deserve to stay up for what she has given this club since buying it.

Any vocal protest at a time when the window is closed can only be counter productive.

We as a club need to stay together and fight to stay in this league.

Over many years I have worked with them and for them. Talk the talk, but can't walk the walk. I called them bullshitters. Parasites on the company. I am of the old school, a manager should go and find his own players. This DOF has never sat well with me. Perhaps I am a dinosaur. Due to health issues I have not attended a game since Wembley. I don't think I've missed much!

Spoke to Rudgie a while ago and he said he used to travel and travel to see players in action. He said everyone these days watches videos of potential signings and even when at Stoke and being asked to watch videos of players he insisted on seeing players in the flesh to see what they were doing off the ball and see what their character was like.

Strangely I have just reached the chapter in his excellent book titled 'Managing to Survive' where he is talking about formations and tactics. I would heartily suggest Mr Flitcroft reads pages 211-213 it's enlightening. His core formation was 4-4-2 'an attractive way to play' 'I liked to put the onus more on the players themselves, instead of using robots, giving the player in possession the choice of which ball was on. The better the player, the more freedom you can give him'

How much 'freedom to play' are our players given these days. None they are like bloody robots particularly under Flitcroft's tippy-tappy at the back 3-5-2.

P.s. if you haven't got the book it's a great read and I am sure the 'statue fund' team would be most appreciative as the £100K target is in sight of being reached.

What has that strawman wibble got to do with quoting Carol saying she wants to be seen as a custodian rather than an owner?

Because, unlike foresaid owners and potential buyers, she is the only one who has invested money into the football club for unselfish reasons I.e. for the good of the club beyond her custodianship.

OK. Lets see what team is going to be next season when their around 1500 - 2000 season ticket holders that will not renew.

If you think this season's been a struggle wait until next with the reduced income

Brian that will be welcomed by some posters as they will have even more opportunity to moan we haven't signed a striker.

    There would be interest

    PVFC is an attractive proposition

    Good loyal fan base

    Championship ready facilities too

    V2001?

    Blue Sky?

    Mo Choudry?

The guy who disappeared like Shergar?

    Smurthwaite?

    etc etc

An attractive proposition,,,  losing a £million a year?

Yes there would be lots of interest from those who want the real estate not the football club.

Jesus you clearly were not part of the fans groups who were lied to by so called saviours whllst working tirelessly to fight the tossers off

Brilliant let's piss off the only decent owner we have ever had who has already put £10M of her own money into the club.

They are business people fgs. First and foremost.

Yes they are are local business owners. But how far back does the affinity to Vale go?

I always thought the Shanahans were lifelong fans whom just happened to have a busness here

That illusion is now shattered. Yes I would be more trusting  of a life long fan (Bill Bell and Bratty) for having the desire to take the Vale forward

At the moment Vale are going back...and no real excuses given Vale are one of the biggest in the division from a fanbase and ground size plus financial veiw. The DOF is failing the club where it matters most...on the pitch. Like it or not, I and others are fast becoming very suspicious

    Bill Bell to be trusted?

    Bratt to be trusted !!!!!

    Bratt a life-long Vale fan?

We are one of the biggest in the league from a fan base and financial point of view?

It's the other way round isn't it?

It was, and remains, us that needed and still need her money to keep the club out of another administration.

According to Mike Baggaley's updates she is putting in a million a year isn't she?

Flitcroft has got carol wrapped around his little finger and has got free rein

    His job is recruitment

    Convinced carol to upgrade infrastructure

    And  upgrade  training facilities

Instead of improving the playing squad

    We needed strikers in Jan

He failed to get any in

    He failed in his duties

That's why most of us are pissed off

    That's why I'm up for option 2

He persuaded Carol to invest in infrastructure at a time when he was being out-bid for a new striker? !!

Think about what you have just said !!

I guess it depends on our definition of 'hobnobbing', but I'll go with the Google defintion of: mix socially, especially with those of perceived higher social status.

Within the last 2 weeks, they had a top-secret Robbie Williams event, privately emailed out to box-holders or certain branches of hospitality. They were asked for their number plate, and once all the cars were inside, they locked the gates to the car park. No open invite. No tickets. No random ballot. Select few, hush hush, don't tell the plebs.

Hob-nobbing with a pop star who hasn't been seen for years, whilst on the other side of the ground there's pensioners walking across a car park to a portaloo.

    Joe

We live in a very violent world. RW is famous and no doubt has to be protected.

Don't blame the club for taking these security measures. A nutter in New York robbed the world of one of the very best surely you wouldn't want a repetition of that.

For what it's worth mate I chose my usual pre-match pint with mates in the Bulls Head.

When Rudgie was manager look what he achieved without new training facilities

We don't need new training facilities

We need a squad of quality footballers

    An experienced manager

    And Flitcroft binned off

Rudgie worked in a different world .. pre Bosman, pre prima donna footballers on immense salaries (try comparing Foyley's salary to what even a league 2 striker gets today), the Vale Park pitch of even recent times that quality players wouldn't dream of signing up to these days.

Basically we are 2 years into a at least 5 year project. Unfortunately we are suffering team wise with 'second season syndrome'

I think the comments towards hospitality is to do with the fact a lot of the clubs publicity is towards the new robbie suite while they are all up in there swanky conditions us commoners dont have a pot to piss in

The RW suite et al actually operates as a revenue earner for the club.

Part of that profit is going to pay for you to have a pot to piss in!

Having supported the Vale since 1957/58 I do understand, believe you me, how poor the facilities in Bycars, Railway and now even Hamil are.

The ironic thing is Carol is being criticised for spending too much money on improving the infrastructure.

I am just wanting to point out that we are all Vale fans and just because we sit in a hospitality area (for which we pay approx £1,000 and more for a ST) doesn't mean we don't 'hurt' just like all other fans.

Probably not worth crowing about "The money that he has generated for this Football Club has paid for his wages to date many times over." then.

Weird how literally every other club in the league manages it, just not us. Fleetwood, now our relegation rivals, signed two strikers this month. Their manager was sacked on Dec 30th and their owner and bankroller went to prison last Summer. Which club is the circus again?

    https://www.itv.com/news/granada/2023-07-04/13-years-in-prison-for-owner-of-fleetwood-town-fc-for-fraud-and-money-laundering

Absolutely no idea, other than Fleetwood is a small, tidy and quite modern ground and not a ramshackle 'Wembley of the North, requiring £millions to be spent on it in a relatively short period of time just to try and bring it into the 21st century. With unforseen further failure of that old infrastructure adding to the cost.

Good on you  Carol! Thank you for your letter.  I hope that all PV fans will read it,  reflect upon it and give thanks for the ownership we've got. I for one, certainly do!

Carol and Kevin are nice people, good at business and PV and its fans owe a BIG debt of gratitude that it is they who saved us from the misery of the Smurf era and yet another potential administration.

Secondly, Carol recognised early on that running a football club is like no other type of business and sensibly hired in DF, someone she felt was not only the right calibre of person but had sufficient footballing knowledge to help bring to life some of the aims for our club that she & Kevin had defined.

As is clearly shown in the open letter, what has been achieved in such a relatively short time span is nothing short of a minor miracle.  Of course mistakes have occurred as Carol freely admits. Perhaps one of those is the delay in reminding us all just what has been happening behind the scenes.  As fans we are always much more focused (understandably) and myopic, concentrating only on what is occurring on-pitch.

However, I sincerely hope that Carol's letter makes us all reflect and temper the extremely harsh (and sometimes, vindictive) barbs that are appearing in too many recent posts. I finished that earlier post this week, by stating that while I obviously do not want us to be relegated, I would prefer to be solvent in League Two under sensible, caring ownership, than being run towards financial ruin by the unrealistic expectations of an ego-driven owner.

Yes, on the playing side, I'm as disappointed as the next person that we don't have a big enough and better balanced squad.  At the end of the day in any business, (and football, for all its quirks and foibles, is still a business) costs always have to be balanced against revenue and, DF no doubt, like the other departmental sections of PV's business, has to work within budget constraints. Unfortunately in football that is where reality and expectations clash--see my same earlier post and its comments about some Premiership clubs and EFLclubs' with financial problems and subsequent official sanctions. I am not here to defend DF but consider this when taking a pop at him; added to the usual budgetary constraints he has to work to, there are also the complexities and complications always inherent in transfer market dealings with players' injuries, fitness, motivation, egos and sometimes, agents & salary expectations.

Finally, a heartfelt plea: can we all please recognise how lucky we are to have a  Chair like Carol.  Please stop the totally unwarranted abuse and extreme criticism and get behind her, Kevin, the club's executives and, of course the next manager and team. One can clearly feel in that open letter, some of the frustration & hurt that Carol understandably must feel. In my humble opinion, she & Kevin are the best thing to happen to PV for many a long year.  The last thing we need, is for Carol to decide that the level of animosity to her being expressed by some individuals' is not worth the aggravation.

    UTV!

    Brilliant post mate.

I don't think an employer can allow the attacks on a member of staff to go unresponded to. So the letter needs to set out the positive things Flitcroft has done. Actually there are a lot.

The letter should not attack an employee in the public domain. For example, Crosby et al were removed from the club after in-house deliberation. Therefore concerns Carol has about Flitcroft will be said to him internally.

But I was bored out of my skull in 2023 with how we played. To the point before Christmas where I thought of not coming again this season. At least we had our heads above water then. We don't now. This is a performance crisis (again). Also likely coming second is a financial crisis.

The club is in a critical moment with this manager appointment. Need someone who can establish an effective midfield, shore up the defence and find a way to score goals. I am hoping for a lot given what I saw last night.

    Excellent post Warren.

Where’s the money going? Record ticket sales, selling on promising youngsters, record merchandise sales, fan zones etc etc & we can’t afford to bring a striker or wing back in & rely on loan kids who aren’t made for a relegation scrap at this stage of their career. I can have a guess where it’s going!

    And where would that be?

Look mate , People are annoyed carol can't see Flitcroft for what he really is a fraud that's why there's loads of fans venting there spleens and understandably so

He is not a fraud though if you are looking at the finance he has generated from sales.

What you are right to point out is the very poor quality of first team performance at the minute and the failure to bring a striker in. However it could just be that the playing budget available to him isn't big enough to buy one. Plus we have lost our only goal scorer to long term injury.

She's so out of touch with the every day fan. We aren't corporate sponsors or hobnobbing in hospitality suites, we are fans who pay a large chunk of our hard earned wages on this football club and our opinions are being completely disregarded.

Why on earth do you separate fans paying for hospitality and fans who don't?

Have you ever been in the hospitality sections?

We are all Vale fans. It's not Old Trafford or the Ethiad it's Vale Park, FGS.

  18. This all reminds me of when we got relegated from this league under V2001.

It was as clear as day then that we were just one striker short of staying up.

Was it away at Fleetwood in last match where we dominated the game and did everything but score. We went down in the last relegation spot.

I stand to be corrected if my memory fails me.
