  1. That tonight is down to one man and that is the clown in charge (Crosby), all on him and thanks to him, he has cost the club 100K, 67 for winning and then with gate receipts and foreign tv money another 30k.  At the time I could not believe he took Arblaster and Devine, we went so negative and tried to see the game out without trying to attack.  You can't do that for 30 minutes, decent teams always find a way, not that Stevenage are that good.  I really can't see how anyone can come on here tonight and defend the manager after those subs, he has cost us big time and I would have sacked him immediately after the game.

As for the poor ticket sales we're only a small community club when all said and done, the day's of getting 10,000 plus are well and truly over !!

Sadly our attendances are only going one way, people are losing interest, I have a few friends who will never miss a cup game home or away but tonight they are not going due to recent performances and how dire we have become.  We have also for one reason or another failed to build on promotion the other season and get bigger gates than I thought, not just down to results, earlier in the season we had a shocking gate when home to Burton and had the chance to go top.

We are now a smaller club than the likes of Notts County, Wrexham, Stockport, Chesterfield, Southend who are averaging similar, probably more in lower leagues despite low away followings.  I know people go on about Smurthwaite and we lost supporters through him but these clubs all had equally bad owners and dropped through the leagues even more but have been able to build up their support to a greater level than before.   Stockport are getting 10k in league 2, even when we had a great run under Clarke during the September/October/November promotion season, we would be getting 6 apart from the end of season.

  3. I don't get why we can't attract a decent manager with pedigree.  I admit if you go for a manager out of a job, the likelihood is that he will have failed in one job or had a bad recent run.  I look back to 2010 when Micky Adams was appointed, he had always been at Championship or top of league 1 and we got him take over after nearly dropping out of the football league.  There are managers out there who will think I need to drop down to get another shot at Championship level.

Got to hope that a few good results between now and then tempt people who are holding off...but it's a huge letdown and embarrassment if we've got big gaps for this one.

I was of the opinion after the Mansfield game, this would sell out no problem but people are not going to pay hard earned money to watch rubbish and other than the odd half decent performances that is what we are getting.  The floating supporter will see no goals virtually every week, read no chances and think I'm not paying £25 for that.  There should be a massive buzz around this game, first time in our history and the performances recently have put a massive downer on it.  I know a number of season ticket holder who are not bothering to go and I can't blame them.

I don't understand why Arblaster and Devine were signed one or the other for me, the recruitment team need to answer a few questions, I thought the lesson had been learned last season Re. the Keepers  (Two average ones or one good one) same mistake with the strikers this time round except we never got round to signing anyone and now looking back they all seem to be panic buys and I guess none of them have come cheap.

Probably in the minority but I get why we signed both, for me both will have very good careers and within a year or two they will be playing regularly at Championship level I have no doubt.  When you play the system we do, which is 3 centre backs and Ojo sitting in front, for me you need to 2 players like Arblaster and Devine who will create and get forward.  I only saw positive comments on here earlier in the season when Devine joined, never saw anyone post why have we signed him.

For me the problems rests with the negative tactics been deployed and awful recruitment or lack of it of a centre forward in the summer.  I feel with a decent forward Devine and Arblaster would look even better than they do.  I feel like a broken record with Sang but I maintain that after a shaky start, we have a decent player who when played on the right will get assists on a regular basis if we have a forward.  Uche and Loft are not good enough and don't want to get on the end of some good balls into the box.

We'll win at Stevenage knowing Vale and everything will be rosy.

For me he's got to go now. The League is the bread and butter. New manager in before Exeter away please.

Wouldn't it be marvellous if Matt Taylors first game in charge was Exeter away.

But we're so puddled we end up giving it Schofield or Dunn.

Has to be relieved of his duties immediately.

Completely agree, got 10 days now to get someone in charge before the most important game of the season Exeter away, forget Saturday and Tuesday (although I be there at both), we need a proper manager in.  Things have been awful for weeks now, we see lots of other teams who sack managers have someone in place within a few days, I know people don't like it when someone is in a job already but when things going so badly wrong, you have to have plans in place to replace immediately.

4 weeks to go? It isn’t a bad number at all. I reckon it will be about an 11k attendance. Which is basically a typical full house of Vale fans amongst those who will go to a big game.

The only way we will get much bigger is a top 4 Prem side at home or Stoke. Remember how poor our FA cup tie attendance against Brentford was?

Do you mean 11k attendance overall or just Vale fans, Middlesbrough will sell out 3000 easily, I don't think only 8000 Vale fans will attend, if there is it would be an awful showing and questions would be asked if we could ever become Championship ready by such poor numbers.  I do think numbers will increase, just hope that we get the sell out we deserve.  This is the quarter final of major cup competition with the chance to be in a semi final for the first time in 70 years, it should not matter if Middlesbrough, Man United or Mansfield, it should be full capacity.  I can't believe comparing a 3rd round match to a quarter final, as just posted it has no comparison at all.

  8. Disappointing numbers so far but still enough time to sell out, hoping good nmber of tickets sold in the next week following pay day for many.  I do think some people may be holding back on purchasing tickets as when I was booking tickets for friends in the Hamil last week, difficult to get 2 seats in a decent area together.  We have to sell out for this game, not sure what the capacity is for home, presume around the 11500 but if we can't get that, it will be very poor.   We have the likes of Notts County and Stockport getting near sell-outs for league 2 matches, surely for our first quarter final for 60+ years in a major competition, we have to have a full capacity Vale Park.

I am not being selfish, just pragmatic. Regardless of the right or wrong of it l don't think they did it to annoy anyone so all the negative publicity is just that.

No one has said they did it to annoy people, they have made a mistake and need to fix it before they go on sale.

Every team got a injury crises and suspensions.

We have not win a a league for two months. That is not down to injuries

In regards to the injury situation, we have had a fair few out like most teams but looking back, other than Clarke and Lacavotti, I would say we have had our best 11 available for most of the season.  Grant and Wilson were massive risks and always likely to break down and I would say Plant been far better than Grant and would have been first choice in that position.  Debrah is an upgrade on Dan Jones and Balmer.  Ojo, Arblaster and Devine been our best midfield combination and been available all season, Garrity our best forward been there all season, Ripley touch wood been available all the way through.

For me if everyone was fit and we were playing a quarter final against Boro, my 11 would be

Ripley, Clarke, Debrah, Smith, Lacavotti, Plant, Ollie, Ojo, Alfie, Garrity, Uche and 9 of that 11 has been available in 90% of games since they joined.

How many people do you really think will want to watch Vale v Middlesbrough on tv ?

Other than Vale or Middlesbrough fans not many I suspect.  People always moan saying why always the premier league teams are shown, it is easy to know why.  Sky will always show the matches where the biggest audience will be and Chelsea v Newcastle and Liverpool v West Ham will attract 10 times more than the Vale.

The suggestion that the Vale are "ripping people off" would be deeply offensive to Carol. The club have done a superb job in making and keeping season tickets affordable and have put together some excellent packages for children with tickets and shirts etc.

They've put £1 (yes, £1) on a matchday ticket price for the biggest game in a long time and they get this grief. It must make the owners wonder why they bother.

No idea what has been said on other sites as don't use facebook or twitter but on here I would say people have not accused Carol of ripping fans off on here but maybe question whether £25 is a little bit steep the week before Christmas.  As I posted earlier, I generally think the cost is too expensive throughout all of the domestic leagues.   Any abuse is bang out of order and no place for that if people have done that and generally hope this is a night to remember for all Vale fans.

  13. For me the cost of tickets in this country is too expensive regardless across all forms of football.  There are now teams in league 2 charging upwards of £30 for a ticket when in Germany, the average cost of a season ticket in the Bundesliga is £200.

I feel £20 would have been a fair price for this match, I realise it is a quarter final and most people are probably going to find a way to purchase the tickets but I can't help but feel for some of those where £25 is too much to justify getting a ticket.

As someone who works for the local authority, we live in a massively deprived area and some people do not realise how much this is the case.  The amount of people I see and refer to foodbanks is just awful, admittedly these people are unlikely to go to football but the difference of £5 in a price of a ticket to some people is massive, apologies for the rant.

  14. What I can't  believe Is that we have into this season with a squad of 23/24 players and we have literally 3 players with a left foot which include Dan Jones who has spent over 50% of his time injured, Connor Grant who was out for virtually the whole of last season and Lacovitti, fair enough we are unfortunate with the Yak but the chances of Jones and Grant staying fit were small.  We have no one that can on the outside on the left and put some telling balls, we have stop and come back and so easy to defend against down that side.  It is criminal to think that was ever going to be enough.
