  1. Really can't believe it is 35 years ago today when the Hillsborough disaster happened.  I still remember that day so well being a 10 year-old at Chesterfield watching Vale win 2 - 1 in the promotion season and taking a radio to listen to my other team take on Forest in the FA Cup Semi Final and left in a state of shock as to what had happened.  I still remember the journey back to Stoke and never known a journey home be so quiet as to that one.  I know stadiums now can often be souless and there be no atmosphere but at least we know we are safe there, think back to the grounds when I first started going, they were disasters waiting to happen.

  2. He has been on the field in the league for 1569 minutes which across the 41 games works out at an average of 38 minutes, it's a definite no to any kind of contract for me, we are going to struggle to get rid of Loft, we can't go into a season with Loft and Wilson again.

    CHELTENHAM last three games...

    Lincoln H

    Peterborough H

    Stevenage A

    NOT an easy three points in that lot for em.......

    A lot depends on results in the next 2 weeks, as Spunk quoted football not played on paper, looks tough for them but we need Lincoln still in with a shout of the play-offs and avoiding defeat at Oxford next week, if they were to lose there, could end up not been able to get in the play-offs by the time they play Cheltenham.  Similar if Peterborough have no chance of automatic, 3 days before the end of the season likely to make lots of changes, any players carrying niggles or big players, they be stupid to risk.  Stevenage whilst looking nailed on for a play-off spot most of the season have fallen off a cliff last few weeks and will have no chance of a top 6 come the last day.  We have to take care of our results and minimum is 3 home wins.

    Good god.

    Why is everyone so down?
    4 clean sheets in 5. It’s not pretty but we’ve given ourselves a huge chance.

    3 out of our last 4 at home.
    People still playing football on paper. Saying Cheltenham will get 10 points. Burton may get 5 or 6.
    Football isn’t played on paper.

    We won’t go down.

    Darren Moore has worked wonders these last few weeks.

    You're right about Moore,done a great job defensively and turned us into a side that has stopped conceding goals which I did not think was possible.  I just felt today the game was there for the winning and with a bit more belief, we could have got the 3 points and that would have put massive pressure on Cheltenham going into their Carlisle home game knowing they would have been behind us regardless of how they did.

    Special mention to Smith again today, been played out of position so many times this season as the RCB and even LCB but playing in his natural position the last 5/6 games he has been superb.  I am not a big Uche fan and don't see him getting the goals but think he is ready to start the next game and hopefully scare Peterborough into some mistakes.

    He gets the same treatment as any other striker. This is the problem, fans keep making excuses for him. Personally, I'd keep him on a pay as you play deal as back up to hopefully 2 or 3 much better ones.

    We can't keep him for another season, I don't get this pay as you play, he is taking up the space of another player, every team should have 4 strikers on the books.  With Wilson you are then restricting yourself to 3 and a half as you know he will be out for more than half. For too long we have carried out players who are injury prone, I hope next season is different, I am sorry but 8 goals in 2 seasons for a striker is not enough.

    Cambridge being 5 points clear could actually work in our favour, in a very optimistic way. We might need to win on the last day, they might already be safe, not going 100mph in a winner stays up stressful 90 mins. Away at VP with a big crowd. Clutching at straws I know.

    I personally would take now being within 2 points of Cambridge playing them last game, I know keep saying it but looking at Cheltenham's next 3 games and we are relying on them dropping points against an already relegated Carlisle, Burton who are woeful or a Bristol Rovers who have given up and not scored for over 500 minutes.  For me that was 2 points dropped today, I really thought they were there for the taking and Northampton and Wigan away, 1 point and no goals scored is a poor return, I honestly felt we would win one of those games.  It puts so much pressure on the home games, we have to win all 3 and we need clean sheets to do this as the goals are not there.

  7. I'm not sure I agree with this Cheltenham are out of form that people have been saying, they have had 15 points from the last 11 games, nearly 1.5 points a game.  In the last 4, they had a bad result on Saturday against Exeter but had a couple of awful penalty decisions go against them, won away to a Fleetwood side who battered us for one a half games, got a point away to Barnsley and concded an 88th minute winner away to Oxford, they are battling like anything.  In the next 4 they have Orient, Bristol Rovers and Burton, all for me very winnable, we have just taken 7 points from those games, none of those 3 looked any good,on top of that a game against Carlisle at home, I hope I am wrong but feel Cheltenham will get a good points tally.

    We have to gain 10 points minimum to have any hope I feel.  I thought Cambridge were in the mix until those last 2 results, for me Saturday is huge and we have to get something, I do think Burton will go, they had nothing when we played then, think a shoot-out between us and Cheltenham for that one spot.

    Having to better the results of basically Burton and Cheltenham to stay up doesn’t sound like much of an ask really. Frankly if we can’t do that, we deserve to go down.

    Definitely between the 3 of us fighting for 2 spots, thought Cheltenham would win today but can see in their next 4 games, them winning 3, they have Carlisle and Bristol Rovers at home who are dreadful lately and a Orient side on the beach and a woeful Burton away, minimum we need is 4 wins, can see us finishing ahead of Burton but think Cheltenham will send us down.

    If we accept we are down , and most do, should we be giving the young lads more game time ?  Better to get them League 2 ready , at least they will play for the shirt.

    I said after one of the games last month, we should be playing the kids as they won't do any worse and we are already down.  For me, they are miles away from being football league ready and I include league 2 ready next year.  The likes of Shorrock, Dippepa, Lomax need to be going out on loan to the National League North early next season and then hopefully come back ready.  The only one I could see that might be ready is Walters but maybe he doesn't want to be here anyway.

  10. I'm one of those crazy fans that will be there on Tuesday, must be mad for going.  I can't see anything other than a defeat by 2 goals but for what it is worth my team, no idea who is fit and able to play but would be;

    Ripley

    Debrah Kasper Yak Clarke

    Mighten Garrity Walters Plant

    Chislett Wilson

    I would give young Reece another chance, he might not be ready but he for me is still the one out of the younger players who has shown the most.

    So sick of all the name calling, abuse, etc being directed at all and sundry on social media and at games. Most of you are grown men FFS.

    Surely the most effective way for those who want to protest is to vote with your feet and your wallets. Don't go to games, don't buy a ST, and basically don't put any money into the club at all. This will give Carol only 3 options:

    1. Increase her subsidy of the club to keep it going and DF in place;

    2. Sell the club, which would mean DF goes too;

    3. Get rid of DF and hope the missing fans return.

    Hitting someone in their pocket is usually the most guaranteed way to effect the change that some of you crave

    Disagree, under previous regimes this was the right way to go about it as the money was being pocketed by the likes of Smurthwaite.  We now have owners who are not the issue, I will have the occasional moan about them but we all know what the problem is.  He has to be removed from this club and continued protests about him is the only way for him to go.  I dont feel starving the club of finances is the way forward.

    The 8 fans who attended the meeting in person had nearly 500 years of Vale support between them.  Is that genuine enough for you?

    Jean, no doubting you and everyone else who attended that meeting are all massive genuine supporters but surely you must agree that there has to be a public forum open to everyone and for this to be arranged before the end of the month.

    I never understand this. Bring out one of our quicker players to the halfway Line and they will bring out two. So with their keeper back, a guy taking the corner and two marking our speed merchant they will only have 7 In our box instead of 9.  Does that make sense or am I being daft?

    It's the modern game Jean, it is compulsory for all 92 league clubs to do this, think it is in every coaching manual now.  As someone who watches a lot of football in the Premier League, everyone is the same.  I have said for years, leave 3 on the half-way line, they have to leave 4 back.  Ripley will now command his area but at times, too many players back and too many to go through.

  14. Feel like repeating myself week in week out but nothing ever changes.  People keep saying each game a massive 6 pointer, when are these folk going to learn that we are down and have been for weeks.  Still walking up Hamil Road after the game, I had to laugh when I heard two old gentlemen say if we can win 2 on the bounce we are back in it.  We will not win another game this season, I said after Fleetwood away, we might get a record low points tally for a season 36 and I maintain that.  Smith cost us yet again, 2 home games running now, Devine was right all along about Smith.  Chislett massively overrated but the decision to bench him and again Mighten in favour of Massey in baffling.

    Shrewsbury are a very poor side but did the basics better than us, our relegation won't be on Moore but my god the football is dire so far under him, did not expect Brazil football but this has so far been very worrying.

    Spending the majority of the playing budget getting rid of the current squad and putting together a squad of dirt cheap players to play with Dipepa, Shorrock and Brazier would guarantee relegation into non-League

    Playing these bunch of gutless, pathetic, spineless players that we have will pretty much guarantee relegation to the National League as well, other than Ripley and Garrity.

  16. Another awful depressing day other than a couple of great pubs found about half an hour away from the ground, just wished we had stayed in there.  Just glad the season is soon coming to an end as we are getting worse with every passing week, keep saying the same things but we have no fight at all and players out there going through the motions.  I don't like calling players out but Ojo is massively overrated by so many people, he offers nothing at all and was pulling out of challenges.  I was not going to go to all the games left but fear it will be a long time before we get to go the likes of Derby, Wigan and Bolton again, we are going to be scrapping for survival in league 2 with this bunch of players.  I moaned about Crosby and thought things could not be worse but it is no better at all.  I did not expect miracles but expected fight, we have nothing at all.

  17. Most of the time I would leave a game like that deflated and angry but as I have said numerous times, already resigned myself to league 2 football next season.  We have a truly awful side, no character, no fight, bunch of players who are not likeable apart from Ripley and Garrity.  That second half performance was one of the worst I can ever remember, I slated Crosby after the Stevenage cup replay but this was way worse than that.  I have no idea what the team talk was but my word, we were battered.  I said with 10 minutes to go, even at 2 nil we would lose by 6 playing like that at Derby.  We literally had 1 attack in the whole half, it was embarassing.

    Moore was my choice to be manager and it won't be on him if we go down but these 4 games have been shocking and I did not expect free flowing football but if that is what we need to get used to, negative changes, being battered by a bottom 2 team at home, it will be a tough watch.  We have gone from a manager who wants 70% possession to a manager who seems happy to have hardly any of the ball.

    I'm leaning towards this too

    we've got to win the next 2 home games. Not going to get anything at Derby and Orient

    You can add the likes of Peterborough, Bolton, Oxford into games we won't get anything from, that would leave 9 games left to get 6 wins, not a chance.
