No excuses for Vale, squad lacking in quality and unbalanced. Frustrating that Camb, Burton and Shrews are certainly no better but survived.

That is what happens if you actually sort out transfers in the Jan window.  You survive the drop.  Fraudcroft didn't and we paid the price.  Got what we deserved.

  2. Well we didn't lose the game.  Thank god the match is over.  Wonder if Houston listened to the full match or went back bed.  🤣

Bring on the close season and how DM builds next years squad.

Will Carol back him with finances or just cut the budget back again.  This side needs better players, players with fight and character, not the bottlers, wimpy players we currently have till the retained list comes out.

Who said that he’s going to a big team. He could go to any championship, league one or two team. We just don’t know.

if he goes to any team in any of those leagues then hes got a chance of playing just like he’s got a chance of playing games for  Port Vale

If it's one of the teams with big squads then may be not, but smaller squads then yes.  All depends on how the team view him and his potential now and what it could be in the future.

Only he can make the decision and then live by it.  Good luck to him if he goes and we will support him if he stays.

The joys of close season, who is going and who is staying.  Will the young players sign new deals and stay with the Vale.

    Hate statements like this.

if he’s not at Vale he will not play games for anybody else? Why do you think this?

    it’s total nonsense

Thing is this is generally what happens to the young players snapped up by the big teams, if they don't break into the first team straight away, then they go into the reserves/development team and then either do it or just bounce around further down the leagues.

Clear a few will still be here but i sense a massive clear out

Sounds like DM will be clearing most of them out and then rebuilding a new side around the youngsters here already.

The joy of close season, looking for the retained list and thinking what - why let him go, you kept them and then wondering who will be coming in.

he needs to pay up the contracts on smith who has been very poor all season likewise ojo, loft..only two goals the awful jones and that lakouzeti and grant and refresh the team..if they have the money

With Smith, is it being Captain and being played out of his favourite position that has affected him this season.  He is one of those, in Div 2 and no distractions like Captain he may find his previous form.  There again he may not.  I am not one of those - he needs to stay as he is Vale through and through.  Not your gash now - so off you go.  Port Vale comes first.

Ojo seems to want away after Crosby left.

Just hope the Owners back DM and he can build a squad to bounce back into Div 1 first time.  But Div 2 is a hard one, if the squad plays like it did the last 2 years.

I don’t know if your being serious or joking 🤦‍♂️

DM needs to be given this season to sort this bunch of sihte out.  Either getting rid of them and building his own team or working with them over the close season and building their confidence back up, getting the silly mistakes out of them.  Bring in new players into key roles we need and then at the end of the Dec 24 if we are still sihte, then call for his head.

He has had fraudcroft poor 2 years of recruitment to deal with, the team was built for a certain formation - which we all knew would not work- apart from Carol and fraudcroft.  Not even God could get most of them to average non-league footballers, let alone league footballers.  🤣

Also see what the owners do backing him.

  8. If the players don't turn up then they need to be gone straight away.  Don't they realise this is the very last chance for them to say boss I could make it in Div 2.  Please don't get rid of me.  But no doubt most of them wont take this chance and still make the silly individual errors.

I see rumours are doing the rounds that there was a ruck with the playes in dressing room and it blew over on the team coach . It on twitter if true it’s worry or not?

Out of that squad there are probably 3 players that spring to mind have any fight in them - Garrity, Ripers and Smudge.  Uche would just bounce anyone off his frame.  The others just have no fight in them at all.  🤣

Yes, you need the network to get chapter and verse on them but, as a starting point, the headlines are easy to find. Shortlisted for the Non-League Golden boot (in addition to the ones I listed in an earlier post) are Joe Taylor (Ramsgate, 40 goals), Dawid Rogalski (Marlow, 34 goals), Jake Reed (Lowestoft, 32 goals) and Marcus Wylie (Enfield, 33 goals). Enfield also have Sam Young on 27 goals, making a very effective partnership that has taken them into the playoffs for the National. So, yes, did we ever even consider them?

What sticks in my mind (as I'm reminded living here) is how effective Cambridge's forward recruitment has been. After losing both Smith and Knibbs to Reading, they recruited Kaikai, Kachunga, Ahadme and Lyle Taylor - in addition to Okenabirhie - and these five strikers have scored 33 goals for them in 141 games, almost certainly enough to keep them up.

We'll see how good they are on Saturday when they turn up at Vale Park.

Wife's parents supported Cambridge and dad used to talk about the players they had and how they bargain shopped all the time, so have a soft spot for Cambridge.  But they found good players most of the time.  Being able to spot the better players (rough diamonds) and bring them on is the trick.

I've made a promise to myself not to check this thread several times per week over the course of the summer! I'm going to take a complete break from all things Vale over the summer & reset for next season.

My hopes for the summer, we somehow manage to keep hold of Garrity & Chislett. Ripley sticks around for another season. We sign a completely new squad including strikers & actual wing backs. The young lads stick about for another year. I'm sure lots of that stuff won't happen, but let's see.

Have a great summer everybody & see you on the other side! Try to stick with the club. We're all Vale aren't we. 😊

It wont happen, curiosity will get the better of you and you will be back to checking every hour or so like the rest of us.  🤣

Disappointing from hammering at BARNSLEY on worst opening day defeat for any football league club since 1961, to the fact that Vale have failed to achieve a midweek league victory in over two seasons. Culminating with only two league victories in 2024. To say that the league One season has been embarrassing is an understatement for all Vale fans.

Carol Shannahan does LOVE PORT VALE, but unfortunately she doesn't have enough knowledge to run a successful football club and with the shocking Director of Football Dave Flitcroft, has undermined PVFC. His departure could not come soon enough and do PVFC certainly in League 2 require a Director of Football. OK Carol Shannahan has been honest enough to admit that she has made errors of judgement. But regardless fair play to the Shannahan's as they have invested in their local football club. Look across the city and even tycoon and money magnet Peter Coates has got loads of critics Stoke City were a Premier League club and pretty successful, but over the past six seasons back in The Championship Stoke have failed to finish in the top half of the table. Money helps clubs vastly, but it is all about the right recruitment.

PVFC if I were in charge I would get rid of all the senior players other than Ripley, Chislet and Garrity and keep all the young and upcoming players as they are the future of PVFC and will learn their football trade in League 2 and possibly generate finance from their sales in future.

DM YES he has been disappointing but when he took over PVFC were heading for League 2 barring a miracle. DM has proved at WBA, DONCASTER ROVERS and SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY what a good influential manager he can be. DM needs time and a good recruitment process. He needs time and I can't see PVFC challenging next season. But 2025/26 season.

    UTV

Agree DM needs time to sort out the dross and get them gone from this club as they are contracted next season.  However, some want instant success from the team.  Not even God could get most of the players to league standard and playing well.

The team is very weak and asked to fill loads of positions which is not their favourite position.  Also full of individual mistakes which are under 4 mistakes standards - not professional footballers.  There is no real fight in most of them, only a couple show fight and will stand up for the younger players.
