  2. Port Vale will monitor goalkeeper Jonny Maddison, winger Reece Brown and Alex Hurst over the remainder of the summer. Maddison and Brown are on trial with the club although Brown has a hamstring injury which has restricted his participation in friendly games. Maddison has been regular back-up to first-choice goalkeeper Scott Brown this summer as Vale look to replace the departed Sam Hornby.   4. Burnley manager Sean Dyche has praised Port Vale after the two sides met in a pre-season friendly. Vale took the lead through Tom Pope before Premier League Burnley showed their class to end up as 3-1 winners. After the game, Dyche told the local media: “Credit to Port Vale, I thought they were excellent first-half and then second-half I thought we were strong. “We saw out the game properly and played well in patches.   5. Veteran striker Tom Pope opened the scoring as John Askey’s Port Vale side lost 3-1 to a strong Burnley side at Vale Park. Vale named new signing Callum Evans on the bench while Burnley included England Internationals Tom Heaton, James Tarkowski, Aaron Lennon and Jack Cork. The Valiants got off to a good start when Tom Pope netted from Worrall’s cross just nine minutes into the game. The visitors nearly equalised immediately when the ball came off Leon Legge’s head and hit the crossbar.   6. Port Vale have confirmed the signing of Macclesfield Town right-back Callum Evans. A club statement read: Port Vale are pleased to announce that defender Callum Evans has signed for the club on a one year deal. The 23 year old right back started off his football career at giants Manchester United as a 14 year old and progressed well through the youth system. After five years at the Red Devils, Evans signed for Barnsley where he would spend the next two years of his career.   8. Port Vale have unveiled their new Errea kit for the 2019-2020 season. Image: Port Vale FC The launch was delayed as new owners Carol and Kevin Shanahan had to wait until their takeover was complete before they could order the kit. The shirt sponsors have been revealed as the Shanahan’s Synectics Solutions company. A look at some connections on the pitch between Port Vale and Burnley ahead of the two sides’ friendly clash Past connections The last player to have connections with both clubs was towering defender Tom Anderson (right) who came on loan from Burnley in August 2017. Anderson played half a season for Vale before his loan was cut short to allow him to join Doncaster Rovers. Other players with connections with both clubs include: Winger Chris Eagles, who played for Vale during the dreadful 2016-17 relegation season.   12. Port Vale manager John Askey said the friendly win over League One Fleetwood was “really pleasing” but said this is no time to get carried away. The Valiants won 1-0 thanks to a fine strike from new signing David Amoo.   13. Port Vale forward David Amoo has been praised after scoring twice in two friendly appearances for the Valiants. Amoo netted against Leek Town on Saturday and continued that form with the winning goal against Fleetwood Town on Wednesday. Team mate Leon Legge commented: “He’s a good addition to the squad and hopefully we can see a few more goals like that.   14. Former Port Vale defender Theo Vassell has agreed a move to a new club while Chris Robertson is a trialist with another. Locally-born Vassell was brought to the Valiants by former manager Neil Aspin and after twenty two appearances, he was released at the end of the season. The 22 year-old has now agreed a one-year deal with Macclesfield Town. Veteran Chris Robertson, now 32, was with Vale between 2013 and 2015.   15. Port Vale manager John Askey thinks that any chance of a right-back Mitch Clark returning to Vale Park has gone. Askey says that the defender is expected to sign for Premier League club Leicester City and even if they do loan him out, it is not likely to be until the New Year.   16. David Amoo scored his second goal in Vale colours as they defeated League One Fleetwood in a friendly. Manny Oyeleke and Kieran Kennedy were both missing from the Port Vale line-up as was trialist Shaun Cummings. However, Vale did include two trialists in Rhys Browne and goalkeeper Jonny Maddison. The Valiants were fortunate not to go into the break a goal down after Fleetwood rattled the post in the opening stages and Vale were also dealt a blow when Ryan Lloyd picked up an injury was replaced by trialist Rhys Browne early on.   18. Billericay Town have signed up two former Port Vale players for next season. The National League South side have snapped up free agents Gavin Gunning and Doug Loft. Defender Gunning had a brief spell with the Valiants in 2017 before leaving to join Forest Green Rovers. A look at some connections on the pitch between Port Vale and Fleetwood Town including one with an unusual nickname… Past connections Veteran Ryan Taylor (right) was released at the end of last season after a spell with Fleetwood. The former Wigan and Newcastle man had two brief spells with the Valiants playing 25 games and scoring five goals.   22. Former Port Vale midfielder Anthony Grant has been dropped to the youth team for the whole of next season. The club said the experienced midfielder will not be training with Town’s first team after returning from two weeks out following dental surgery. Grant did not travel to Portugal on Town’s pre-season training camp and boss Sam Ricketts said the reason for not letting Grant train with the first-team will remain ‘in-house’.   23. National League North side Chester FC have announced the signing of former Port Vale striker Danny Elliott. Elliott was signed by Port Vale in January from the Spanish lower league club San Cristobal and made seven appearances for the club before being released at the end of the season. Chester co-manager Anthony Johnson told the local press: “He’s going to be an unbelievable signing for us. After spells with Bradford City and Cambridge United, the striker has moved to Scotland and signed a deal with Scottish Championship side Partick Thistle.   25. Former Port Vale manager and club legend Neil Aspin is reportedly one of the leading contenders for the vacant FC Halifax Town manager’s post. On Monday the club announced that: FC Halifax Town manager Jamie Fullarton has resigned from his job with the National League club. The 44-year-old former Notts County boss had been in charge at The Shay since February 2018 and guided them to a 16th-place finish in the National League last season.
