Veteran striker Tom Pope opened the scoring as John Askey’s Port Vale side lost 3-1 to a strong Burnley side at Vale Park.
Vale named new signing Callum Evans on the bench while Burnley included England Internationals Tom Heaton, James Tarkowski, Aaron Lennon and Jack Cork.
The Valiants got off to a good start when Tom Pope netted from Worrall’s cross just nine minutes into the game. The visitors nearly equalised immediately when the ball came off Leon Legge’s head and hit the crossbar.
