  2. Ha. And lots of stories of players given that silly money at a young age and they don't develop or go off a cliff edge because they can't cope with it (see also, some Man U youngsters in recent years). I'm just saying the pull shouldn't be the money and it's often heavily incentivised for younger players now if clubs are sensible as clubs like Liverpool and Arsenal are. Of course, not all are! If you think what we pay him, or even could, a Prem or Championship club can offer him better terms without having to pay him millionaire money overnight. If he was signed for a first team then I'd expect him to be a millionaire overnight. In terms of him moving on to another club which is best for Vale, I just hope whatever club it is, the lad flourishes and can move on to bigger things. The money should be the last thing he is thinking about, because if he develops, it will all come together anyway 🙂
  3. Everton allow those kind of figures and obviously James Wilson became a millionaire from the contract he signed at 17
  4. I can't divulge where I work, but yes, in football and does involve contracts. I'd be very surprised as a first year pro (which he is) if he can command that sort of figure. It's not allowed at Liverpool, for example - and other Prem clubs have similar structures, where it will increase with length of service. At Liverpool the max wage for a 17 year old is 40,000 - a year. It will be very good money, but you're talking 20K a week minimum for a multi year contract. That obviously isn't what all the Prem clubs are paying their youth players on a basic wage plus loyalty fee, even the ones they poach and bring in. Different story if he has more experience, or you have some mad club wanting to give him that money to gazump a bigger club.
  5. Yes, he will with the contract that he will be given. It will be a multi million pound contract. So you work in football then on football contracts?
  6. I work in a related field directly related to football so I do *get it*. We won't be able to come near any of that, the wage structures completely different. All I'm saying is he isn't going to be getting Seth Johnson kinds of money or be a self made millionaire overnight.
  7. You are still not getting it. With the transfer fee that is going to be involved and the length of contract, it wilL be life changing money
  8. I forgot you are still stuck in the past. i bet you are still calling club call for all the latest transfer gossip on one of these phones
  9. Compared to what we are able to pay for him that will be a given.
  10. Not too sure on that one mate. Better than what he gets here for sure, but quite a few of the Prem clubs keep first year pro deals fairly low to begin with. I'd bet his time with the U17s has opened up his mind a bit with playing with technically better players, and what that could do for him. I'd love him to stay though if we could build a team around him. Going back up would be ace. But with a local academy lad firing us up? Even better. (A guy can dream 😄) Wouldn't say 1M is life changing anymore. We lost something like 3mil last year in the accounts. It's a lot, but even a million would get eaten up very quickly. It's insane what a money pit it is.
  11. Totally agree. I can't see the deal being above one million initially but will have clauses attached shoud he score goals appearances etc or future sell on.
  12. So that's Donny and Chesterfield showing already they mean business
  13. Glad we put all that weight on the shoulders of Billy Painter. He worked out pretty well.
  14. If somebody like Man U buy his services his wage will be closer to £20k per week than £5k per week.
  15. If we had avoided the drop and were looking to consolidate a position in League 1, then maybe I would agree with you. But I think the circumstances have changed and a young, exciting striker with loads of potential who's scoring goals for the youth national team is worth a lot more to the club than a million pounds and a couple of OK players. The idea of cashing in on him when he's so young and has played less than 750 minutes for the club in the league just seems a little short-sighted for the position we're in.
  16. I disagree. A top club would pay him at least £5000 a week. If it's a 3 year deal that's £780 000 or about half a million after tax. At his age that is a considerable amount of money and I think those figures are pessimistic.
  17. What is a Port Vale ? 🤣🤣🤣
  18. Tom Sparrow is absolutely nowhere near EFL level. I watched him a few times last season on loan at Chester and he looked out of his depth to me. They played him in CM and RB and he looked equally poor.
  19. He’s a <ovf censored> mate. I wouldn’t touch him with a barge pole.
  20. I would mate. Looks to have regained his confidence in the loan spell at Belgium. Direct player with pace and an eye for goal. A player who has developed very nicely and now just needs to be given a chance. A player with a high ceiling in my opinion. In DM’s world with wingers I think he would be an excellent addition to the squad. Still lives local.
  21. Think you're being unrealistic. It's equally possible he'll have a poor season, or get crocked and miss most of the season. Then where would we be? If we are offered a million we should take it. It's potentially life changing for Vale. We can get 3 decent players in for that sort of money, and then fee gets increased due to add-ons, inc an extra million for his full England debut in 2 years time.
  22. Do not be so gullible. First off, if a Premier League team come in for him, he will not be thinking about stopping here for another year, he will be thinking about not being able to wait to have a photo of him wearing his new team's shirt. He will develop better and quicker by training with some of the best player's in the world rather than some big sluggers in League Two. I will guarantee you now, any move to a Premier League team will be life changing money for him. Do you have any idea how much someone around 17 or 18 basic can be in the Premier League even when you are no where near to getting into the first team squad? because I do
