Port Vale have confirmed their first move of the transfer window as Ronan Curtis leaves the club to join Plymouth Argyle.
Curtis will link up with former teammate Lorent Tolaj who joined Plymouth earlier this season and has moved for an “undisclosed fee.”
A club statement said:
We can confirm that Ronan Curtis has today left Port Vale to join fellow Sky Bet League One side, Plymouth Argyle, for an undisclosed fee.
The midfielder made 73 appearances for the Valiants after signing from AFC Wimbledon in June 2024, scoring a total of seven league goals.
We would like to thank Ronan for his contributions to the club during his time here.
Curtis signed for the Valiants after leaving AFC Wimbledon in the summer on 2024. He scored five times as the Valiants secured promotion to League One last season. This campaign he has added a further three goals. He has totalled 73 appearances. Curtis was under contract until 2027 so a transfer fee was applied.

Vale fans what do you think? Are you happy or sad to see Curtis depart? Post a comment below.

Not a very clever decision to sell him to a relegation rival!!!
Hope we got a good fee for this duffer.
Let’s hope there’s a replacement with selling Curtis to keep us in league one in this month’s transfer market .Because we need some new faces in the team to survive league one. A league one goal scorer would be an advantage for us
For me Curtis seldom lived up to the hype or reputation he arrived with. As a lot of our players we never seemed to get the best out of Curtis, which I put down to Darren Moore’s team selections, systems and constant team changes. All the best to him and I hope the money is spent on bringing some much needed pace into the team. It would be nice to know who made this decision to allow Curtis to leave especially as Brady had only been here for two minutes?
Senseless !!!!
Senseless !!!! We are clearly now Plymouth’s feeder club !
Why are we selling good fit players we need to get us out of this mess. Shift the dead wood and injury prone players we only see two or three times a season.
Wish him all the best but didn’t really rate him anyway only just realised he’s a winger, don’t think I ever saw him go past a player too slow and inconsistent for me and seriously to suggest not having him affects our chances of staying up is a joke. Hopefully we bring a proper winger in. UTV
Was Curtis sold to cover Darren Moore’s termination settlement ? Why else would Vale sell arguably their most creative and skillful player to a team directly competing against them ? There must have been an offer from Plymouth they couldn’t refuse. I suspect the “undisclosed” fee is around £200,000. How much of that (if any) can be put to team strengthening isn’t known. So, the £121,000 FA Cup prize money with the possibility of more to come must be a relief.
It was all said in Jon Brady’s interview after Friday’s game. When asked the question about Curtis, his reply, after treading very carefully, was along the lines of “I don’t want players who don’t want to be here”. Think he had to go. Good luck to him and move on….
If Vale are going back to a 442 formation with wingers it’s unfortunate that Curtis has left the club he may not have scored many goals but he created chances for other players in the team. Moore never got the best out of Curtis he never got a run in his natural position as a winger and was one of the players who suffered under Moores confused and muddled tactics and team selections.
He was possibly expensive. Has a decision been made to get the costs down?
