Photo Essay: the Russell Bromage Port Vale testimonial match 1986
Following the sad passing of Stuart Chapman, Kev Walshaw sent us this clipping of the Russell Bromage testimonial match from 1986 which featured Chapman in the Port Vale line-up.
The background
Russell Bromage had graduated from the Port Vale youth team to sign professional forms in October 1977.
After almost 350 first-team appearances, the defender was granted a testimonial match in May 1986. The match was against Stoke City and the Vale line-up won 1-0.
Bromage was to leave the club in 1987 as he joined Bristol City for £25,000 plus Lawrie Pearson. He ended his playing career at Whitehawk with nearly 500 senior appearances to his name.
