Russell Bromage player profile
Long-serving locally born left-back Russell Bromage progressed through the Port Vale youth ranks to sign as a professional in 1977.
He made his debut during the 1976-77 season and was initially played in midfield but dropped back to the left-back slot with some success.
Bromage was player of the year for the 1980-81 season and served as club captain the following season. He also played in the 1982-1983 promotion winning Port Vale side and was named in the PFA Teams of the Year (Fourth Division) for both 1982–83 and 1984–85. He was also a key player in the Valiants’ 1985-86 promotion side as he earned his second promotion with the club.
However, after a testimonial match, he decided to leave the Valiants and moved to Bristol City for £25,000 (plus Lawrie Pearson) in 1987. H won a third promotion as Bristol City were promoted in 1990.
