  1. Looks like reading have pulled away from the drop zone

Two places left in the fight (Fleetwood and Carlisle already gone for me) and how many clubs are at serious risk of going down? 3?4?

I think we have to win the three team group of us, Shrewsbury and Charlton - tough ask!

I would say the loan signings are getting worse.  Devine and Arblaster out Gore and Weir in, plus Williams from Liverpool who we sacked off without playing.

How many young players were out there and better than those two?

We were never going to be able to replace them with better young loan players. We should have changed tactic

  3. Yep listened just now. As a vocal critic of DF I am sorry to hear he has had abuse - no place for personal abuse - it's just a job.
Singing for him to get out of the club is a different thing - fans are entitled to their opinion.

    Overall my feeling hasn't changed;

    - Timing of the interview is interesting. Would we have got this podcast if we had hired a manager that the fans weren't happy about?
    - We could have gambled on a PL2 player who DF thought might not be good enough - they would be better than a Dipepa surely?!?
    - No mention of the left back
    - All our striker options we blame the other club or the player - there is no acceptance that we are perhaps fishing in the wrong pool
    - Long-term plans are great but short term we need to address the mistakes that have been made

    - If we can afford Darren Moore now - who could we have got last summer when the club needed a reset?
    - If we had let Crosby go after the Cheltenham game when it was painfully obvious he wasn't up to the job we would have had an opportunity to get more points on the board and the new manager's influence in the squad. The same pool of players available yes, but managers have a pull and also their own feelings of the kind of players we are missing.

I think he has done so good things and some bad things. Hiring a bad manager last summer and the overall transfer windows since being promoted to league one are enough for me to think someone else could do a better job in that position.

Fans' had grave concerns after the 7-0 first day drubbing at Barnsley!!!

Some said when he was appointed in May it would end in relegation. But I still think a good manager can get enough points to keep us up.

I’m still asking myself how the hell have we ended up with effectively no strikers.  I can’t get my head around it.  It’s worse than gross negligence.  Flitcroft has to go.

My guess is we set our stand too high, refused to pay the over inflated fees earlier in the month and then had a deal lined up on deadline day that relied on another club making a change which didn't happen - not leaving enough time to pivot.

There has to be lessons learnt from this though.

And it doesn't excuse the left back issue. Surely we could have loaned Gibbons in until the end of the season on a cheap enough deal. He wasn't my first choice but better than nothing?!??

Well ladies and gents welcome to the traditional Dave Flitcroft transfer deadline day panic!

In prior year's this has given us such success stories as Liam McCarron, Ryan Loft, Dennis Politic (2nd time) and Matty Taylor all under the guise of "squeezing the most value out of the market".

In positive news, all rumours of money troubles at vale should now be quashed as they are clearly still paying LancyTony to post his nonsense and abuse on here.

Funny post but I think personal attacks aren't great. Were all vale fans and we want the best for the club

I don't think we will get relegated, that's for sure...no matter where we are now.

I feel we can compete against most clubs of our size in this League...but injuries haven't helped, all season - Uche even getting injured during the transfer window; nor have the various postponements we've had.  And losing Ollie and Alfie when they were supposed to be here all season! It's all disruptive and no wonder we've struggled!

Your reply makes more sense than the "spending our money badly" one I first replied to!

I think we will but I really hope I'm wrong.

I think injuries haven't helped but we've also signed players with poor injury records / not many games in the past seasons. We're also not the only team to have injuries but i can accept We've had it tough with a smaller squad/ budget (for example Portsmouth who also suffered bad with injuries but have a bigger squad and more budget)

We also knew there was a chance that the loans would be recalled. I don't buy that as an excuse.

In general though, I don't think we have done well enough in the recent transfer windows and that's coupled with a very poor management appointment.

Like I say, I really hope im wrong and we can stay up and build on again in the summer

If you don't know what we're spending, or where, then you're not qualified to make that statement! In any squad there will be less successful signings. But - are you just blaming those who don't score, or don't create chances? Or also blaming those who are injured and can't contribute to the team, so are not justifying their wages either?

We either don't have enough money to compete in this league

Or we have enough and haven't performed well with our signings

Or we are doing fine. Competitive in this league and our signings are working?

I personally feel we do have money to be competitive - not top 7 but midtable. I also think we have some good players and I agree with the way the club are investing in the long term and the facilities. But I also feel we are underperforming on the pitch. What do you think?

  9. I think it's far from guaranteed we would be challenging for promotion next season if we went down. Look at the four that dropped last year; only mk Dons in a playoff place.

Would be an absolute disaster to go down and put us back minimum 3 seasons to get back to where we are now.

So, three days left. Need a striker and wingbacks on both sides.

Zak Sturge rumoured to be one of the players we're looking at. He's barely played a minute of first team football and been crap on loan first half of the season so would fit the profile we are going for this window.

    Anyone else heard any rumours?

If Uche is out for an extended time we need two strikers
