The galling thing about this particular relegation is that Vale only needed one of our strikers to get another ca 4-6 goals or have signed a Matty Taylor like striker who could well have done the same and those few ca 4-6 goals could have well translated into another 6-10 points and Vale could well be safe now or at least have a chance of safety in the last match.

It's likely that 2 or 3 Clubs are going to stay up with less than 50 points.

Matty Taylor scored 4 in 14 for us last season, has scored 6 in 12 for Cheltenham this season, why on earth did Vale not sign him in 2023/24, lots of Vale fans including me hoped the club would sign him for these very reasons. As long as the legs are still there then natural goal scoring ability trumps age any day.

Cambridge managed to get a striker on loan from Ipswich... Gassan Ahadme 23 so not a kid and he has scored on average a goal every other game for them including last night

This whole ‘we cant blame moore’ and ‘even pep couldnt have done better with this lot’ is just ridiculous. If thats the case, why did sack a manager and replace him with Moore on triple his wages and a five year deal? If any manager could make a difference, why waste the money? Truth is, we spent all that money and we wouldnt be worse off if we had left the academy lads in charge, and id hazard a guess wed probably be better off. He was paid to come in and do a job, and he failed miserably. It looks like he will have a chance to rectify things next season. Im not overly confident in his ability to do so, but hopefully we will have a budget to make that easier, because he doesnt have a record of being a miracle worker with small budgets.

What I like is how everyone now seems to know how much Moore is on although i have seen that range fron 4k to 8k a week

Sang and Grant can put a good cross in the box (about all they are good at), trouble is that we have Uche and Loft who are useless. Both would be a ,or more effective if we had a Tom Pope style of forward who knew where to position himself and was good in the air.

    Totally agree with that

    Definitely not Darren’s fault.

He is desperately unlucky and it is nothing to do with him whatsoever that he has presided over 5 wins in 39 matches.

He should not in any way, shape or form have any accountability for what is probably an unprecedented bad run in English football management.

It’s all the owners and Players fault. Poor Darren, I feel sorry for him.

Thats a surprise you popping back up on a topic about DM

I really would concern yourself with your own plight under a managerwho hasn't really improved your fortunes since DM left so maybe it's more to do with your club and a bit more deep routed (just guessing) a bit like ours.

All the best again me owd fruit

Just realised I have replied to this before as it's from Sunday,I should look at the dates.... dont worry I am an idiot...must be as I still think DM will be the man

Carol won’t be throwing any money at anything. She didn’t when we got our highest gate average since 94/95 last season, so why start now?

We will have a reasonable budget for league 2 because we are a big club for the league with big gates for it, but it won’t be due to Carol deciding to bankroll much more.

We will have to wait and see on that one

But that is no surprise anyone can score against us most of the time due to our ever giving defence and midfield.  🤣.

Agree there are little gems in the non-league, but you just have to have the network to find them.  Did Fraudcroft even consider those leagues.

Probably not but DM needs speak to Rudgie about it,as he had a good non league scouting network, along with abroad and even Scotland to a point

We definitely should be targeting the National League where you will find players like Paul McCallum at Eastleigh (30 goals this season), Nicke Kabamba (Barnet, 24 goals) and Mani Dieseruvwe (Harlepool, 23 goals).

If you drop one tier lower, you find strikers like Paul Blackett (South Shields 29 goals) and Ollie Pearce (Worthing, 40 goals).

Several of these are on the short list for the NGA (ie non-league) Golden Boot award where there are also several other prolific goalscorers plying their trade in the lower reaches.

Admittedly, not all or even any of these would make it in the EFL but I wonder how much attention we are paying to these players. Peterborough and one or two others seem to make a fine living out of it - and with the shoddy fare we've had to put up with in recent seasons, it might not be a bad idea to give them a look over.

I think if Vale target any non league player it will be a young one they have  a chance of selling on at a later date

I cant see us having any interest in McCallum(30) or Kabamba(31) because of their age, same with Dieseruvwe(29 and had 300 clubs),I personally think if we sign a striker of that age it will be one who has been playing League football.

I mentioned Tolaj(22) at Aldershot and Conn-Clark attacking midfielder at Altrincham(22) I think those are the ages we would target from a lower league

    We won 6 (double).

    That's good then

No point though for you to keep coming on for a pop at our manager as he isn't going anywhere whether we like it or not,you are very welcome on here tbh but it's a bit odd for you to have a dig at a manager no longer at your club, only my opinion

It seems like he is going to get the time to build a team here,it might work it might not that's football...some of your fans were raving about your manager and his football when DM left but he seems to be struggling with it now doesn't he? do any of you want him gone now? nothing said that any other manager would of saved us but we wont know that now,we go with what we have got and see how it pans out

We cant deny that DM did well at Doncaster,WBA and Sheff Wed but poorly for you and us(so far),you dont turn into a terrible manager overnight imo and lets be honest he has a big job now to build his reputation back up or he will end up on the managerial scrap heap.

Anyway good luck in League One and hopefully we will play you soon enough 😉

Terribly to be honest. We just needed a few more points than 3 wins in 23 from Darren and we would have been fine.

Sound familiar?, you should never have been relegated this season, never.

You needed very little points wise to stay up and yet that charlatan couldn’t even get you that could he.

Both our clubs have suffered, both our clubs have made shocking managerial decisions. And both our clubs are getting exactly what they deserve. Relegation.

No complaints but for goodness sake do not exonerate the very Man that has completely shafted us both.

Whats happened in your other 20 games?

  12. I have to say out of the squad right now i would only be tempted to keep the young lads,Ripley,Chislett,Clark if he can stay fit and Garrity but I am unsure on Smith who is the battling kind of League 2 CB you need, also i think Ojo would be decent in League 2 but for me he doesn't want to be here,so looking like a major rebuild. I wouldn't want to keep any of the loan players thats for sure

    Which would have cost less:

Signing someone like Johnson Clarke Harris in a bid to retain league 1 status.

Signing nobody, sacking and paying off Crosby & Dunn, and bringing in Moore & his 4 assistants, with relegation a very distinct possibility, with the catastrophic financial implications that relegation brings.

Sometimes, we have to accept that progress costs money. If someone tells you there’s a better way, they are bullshitting.

Totally agree Bede mate, hopefully she has learnt that lesson and the hard way,so lets see if she agrees to splash a bit of cash on that striker or two that will help to try and get us straight back up
