People still bang on about re-signing Pope. Love the comfort blanket of an ex player do Vale fans

People just really need to let it go. He did some good things first time around, in League Two, but he progressively got worse the longer he was here. We need something completely different, he probably does too.

    1 game he was supported?

Sitting in the Lorne St I've heard so much unwarranted criticism. The guy was warming up and someone told him to "F OFF". Every time he got subbed off there were ironic cheets.

He's not been great I agree, but what is the point in deriding him?

Wikipedia goal record + Bristol Rovers views = written off the day we signed him.

Why are you looking at stats for other clubs? He's a PORT VALE player.

Go and look at Danilo Orsi's stats for other clubs. Then look at what he did as a CRAWLEY TOWN player.

It will happen again this season, we'll sign someone, idiots will look at their "goals scored" column on Wikipedia and judge them straight away.

He's been on a hiding to nothing since he signed.

He's been crap and has been called out for it. He's a striker and doesn't score goals, so of course he will get criticism. He's not the first player to be questioned and criticised and certainly won't be the last. He's a big bloke and has broad shoulders. It's down to him to take the criticism on the chin and turn opinions around by scoring goals and performing. In football you have to be able to take criticism along with the praise.

The majority of Vale fans aren't the brightest, and I see this time and time again when we sign strikers.

They will just go on Wikipedia, look at their goal record, and judge them INSTANTLY.

"5 goals in 50 games?!?! Why the hell have we signed him?! He's garbage!!"

Written off straight away before a ball was kicked. Every bad touch derided. Booed as he's warming up/being subbed on.

Look at Elliott Nevitt as an example .

Nevitt didn't score in his 21 games in the 2022-23 season! Then he hit 18 goals in the season after.

How about we do something revolutionary and actually encourage and support our players?

Why do we ALWAYS need a boo boy?

You can not rate him at all AND not actually boo him, you know?

The truth is he's been crap all his career since he left Spurs as a kid, and not through any lack of effort. Bristol Rovers fans were overjoyed when he left which is never a good sign that you've made a good signing. He might do alright as a nuisance sort of player with another striker with more quality alongside him, but not many teams start with a 4-4-2 these days as football has evolved.

That said, I do think that even he should be capable of scoring 10 goals at least in League Two as the gap in quality between the two leagues is pretty huge.

What people have to realise is that we're a very big club for League Two, with one of the best and most traditional stadiums in the league. Moore, whatever you think about him, has a reputation, as do the owners despite them making mistakes last season. If we also have a healthy budget there's no reason at all why we can't be attracting good players, such as Curtis, and beating other teams to their signature as long as we're willing to match salaries.

If players like Dipepa and Garrity leave it won't be for chocolate buttons, that's for sure. You would think at least some of any funds we get will go back into strengthening the starting 11.

I haven't got the money. Carol and RW have.

They could have avoided all tbis.

Last season was an apocalypse from start to finish. Time to park that firmly in the past though and give everyone, including the owners, a clean slate. We've just made a cracking first signing of the summer on paper (nothing is ever guaranteed) which shows ambition, so it's mentally healthier to concentrate on the new now rather than the old.

How long are you giving Moore? What's your minimum expectation in League two before the club should consider getting rid?

I think if we are all realistic the top ten would be an achievement.

A full season. I just want to see a team that has some bottle and character. One that plays on the front foot and isn't afraid to mix it up a bit. None of this farcical passing it around for the sake of it which is ridiculous unless you have a full team that are comfortable on the ball and not just a couple of players.

Everyone should be willing to give him a chance this season. Last season he and us were diabolical. But we are where we deserve to be and had we actually managed to stay up by the skin of our arses, baring a miracle over the summer we would have all been watching us getting hammered most weeks by considerably better teams. There's absolutely no fun in that. Now hopefully we can start against fresh with as many new faces around the place as possible. I have major doubts about Moore but if he gets us going next season and creates a team spirit similar to the one Clarke did, all can be forgiven.

His direct goals and contributions are not great, that is true. But the bare numbers won't show secondary assists, or how he might create space for others. In a decent side it's obvious he is a handful and a good foil for another striker to play off. I agree he's not good enough though on his own to make an outstanding contribution himself to carry a side.

The bigger issue is service for strikers, they are only going to be as good as the rest of the team around them. His stats will be crap because we were largely crap last season.

We need a striker that can score but more than that we need a style of play to get the most out of strikers we will have.

I'm not sold on Uche but we haven't had that in a long time, so lets see what the bigger picture is when we get closer to the season starting.

Ikpeazu will be an absolute handful in League Two, especially if you put the right profile of striker up alongside him. But that also depends on whether he wants to play for the club in League Two and how his mindset is. He won't score a lot of goals but he will certainly occupy defenders and create space for others, as Steve Brooker used to many years ago.

I think it's from short-sighted Vale fans that just remember his assist + goal in the playoff semi and final.

If we signed someone else with the exact same stats there would up uproar on here.

Exactly. He was a trier and he scored an important goal. Outside of those things he was pretty run of the mill.

Not for me one minute saying we should be going in for him, for me too much baggage but saying he was one in 6 for us is not really true, lot of that time was playing 10 to 15 mins as a sub.  He scored a goal every 161 minutes during his time with us, a very decent return for someone who was 19 when he was with us.

Fair point. Still don't think he really pulled up any trees though despite his Wembley goal, and he's done nothing since. He would be fine as one of four strikers at the club, but think "superb" is way over the top.

I'm interested to hear what is said at the forum tonight.

I don't think Gibbo is the answer, as much as I love the bones of the guy - we've had enough injury problems this last year. We need fit athletes who can last a whole season; I also agree with the feelings about Uche that the man cannot last 90 mins - should be an immediate no-no.

The only former player i'd want back here is Harrat I think he's superb and gagging for success.  But I know he's been injured, too, so maybe a straight no.

Cant get up to the Mother Town this evening so if someone can summarise the forum tonight that would be great.

    UTV!

Where does this notion that Harratt is superb come from for some people? He works hard, sure, but he averaged a goal every 6 games in League Two for us and has scored 1 goal for Huddersfield since in the league. "Gagging for success" is complete hyperbole. That's not even mentioning he clearly has bad habits off the pitch.

Mansfield were outplayed because we controlled the midfield with Ollie and Alfie.

I think you're over rating all the players mentioned.

I'm not over-rating anyone. But I know that most the sides in League Two won't be anywhere near the same quality as League One.

    I’d say that’s a relegation chasing side

Nonsense. Chislett, Garrity and Ojo are League One quality. Clark is a good League Two player when fit. Same with Smith. Dipepa will be much better from having experienced some football this season. Ripley would be one of the best goalies in League Two...

I think some people are forgetting just how poor many League Two sides are. We won't be facing anything like the same quality as the top half of League One. Look how poor we made Mansfield look in the Cup last season and the only real difference in that side were the two loanees.

That side wouldn’t get close to top 7 for me, there is no pace or width in midfield, no proven goal scorer, no tacking ball winning midfielder, no height in defence and not enough proven leaders/winners.

And do you think League Two sides will have all bases covered?

  15.

As of right now, without again coming or goings, this would surely be at least a play-off chasing side in League Two.

    Ripley

    Clark

    Debrah

    Smith

    Iacovitti

    Wynne

    Ojo

    Garrity

    Chislett

    Ikpeazu

    Dipepa

It's a big if, but if we can keep Chislett, Garrity and Ojo I don't think there would be many better players in League Two. Add a goal-scorer to that side and a decent centre-back and you're laughing.

Not on the back of seeing him last season they wouldn’t. I was happy when he signed, but some of the misses were beyond bad. We shouldn’t be signing a striker up with 1 assist and 1 goal. He will be on very decent money as well. Get rid whilst we can and start a fresh.

If he doesn't have much interest I'm sure he would agree to a lesser wage, if not given much of a choice. I believe with better service both him and Loft would be able to score some goals in League Two. The difference in quality between the two leagues, other than a handful of poor teams in League One, is massive. Again, I'm not saying I personally want to keep either in an ideal world.  But Ikpeazu is a target man and there were times last season when others around him were better because of his presence. Surely with a decent pre-season behind him and in hopefully a more creative side he would be capable of being a 10 goal a season target man.

  17. 1 hour ago, Brian Johnson said:

Yes, you are not wrong, there are far better strikers up and down the country than Ikpeazu

And the vast majority of them will be out of our reach for numerous reasons. I'm no fan of Uche. I wouldn't care less if both him and Loft were on the move as long as they are replaced. But out of the two, I think he has a bit more of the nuisance factor than Loft. If we were a League Two club and we signed Ikpeazu I think most would be saying what a great signing it is.

I cant believe some really do think that those still here at the moment are the ones we start with in August,i will state now that a fair few will be leaving.

As someone else said if Uche has an option of another year(thanks to DF) then we have to go the right way about it. I am hoping some of these talks include with Garrity to extend his contract by another 2yrs

Ikpeazu will be fine in League Two if we can get someone with pace to play alongside him that's a more natural finisher. He's toothless but he's also a handful.
