This is just modern football. Nearly every single club loses money, every season, and has to be subsidised by an owner.

3.4m is a larger loss than what most of the other clubs saw who finished in the bottom half of League 1 in 22/23.

The league was effectively split in two with 3M+ loss finishing top half and <3M loss finishing bottom half - bar us and Oxford, who lost 6m.

Its clear that mistakes have been made, but it’s also clear that even if we’d been more efficient with spending we are likely to have lost £2m just staying in the division.

I think it’s daft to understate that not many folk would be happy losing 3m just to keep Port Vale in League 1 - whilst wrongs need to be righted we’re still very lucky that Carol is effectively spending her kid’s inheritance covering our losses.

Actually a large proportion of the losses are interests on loans owed to her as I see it. So Carol’s kids will never starve with Vale around.

What the hell have we spent that money on? Certainly, it isn't players. Leaking money.

It has to question how the club is run. Smurfwaite was a horrible man, yet I don’t think the club racked up these sort of debts under him.

Certainly the rubbish football under his ownership was a cheaper form of rubbish football for similar outcomes so far…

Maybe the fact we have a bigger matchday corporate operation is why 🤷‍♂️ I don’t know I’m just guessing.

We do, but that’s all pointless if the corporate operation does not make more money.

How can League One have less games than League Two when both have the same amount of teams? Odd one!

the statement mentions ifollow ceasing domestic streaming which makes me wonder if the international streaming will remain?

I guess it will. I mean Sky Sports in the UK can’t surely tempt the EFL to give up international revenue for games.

I’m hoping, as someone who uses a VPN for many games to access them in the UK, I’ll still be able to see all games somehow.

Big numbers, has to also be noted these figures only cover until June 2023 so dont include this season's figures at all do they?

That’s the grimmest bit. Last season was actually fairly successful in terms of gates etc. God knows what the money has gone on because it wasn’t on a top class squad.

Does anybody who buys a lower league club ever make any money?

Good job Carol and Kevin love the club !

Not really. Which is why you shouldn’t buy a lower league club to remain one. You need to either spend the money to get to the Champ or leave.

  7. Peterborough are only £5 million more in debt than we are, but guess what? If they get to the champ they will pay that off while ours will increase or worse in LG2.

It pays to spend money on a good squad.

But this is the Vale - so anything could happen.

He could come on and score a goal or two - you never know.  🤣

But the transfer does seem weird, unless they want to look at him for next season.

Fraudcroft has gone hasn't he - as this is something he would have done.  🤣

A cheap foreign signing that nobody can moan about just yet because he is far too obscure for anyone to have seen play is a classic Norman Smurfwaite agent catalogue scenario.

That’s what really pees me off is this signing of players who nobody can ever say they have ever seen play, because nobody from the club was in the states watching 2nd tier US league football in October when he last played.

When will people actually learn from Rudge? What’s the point of having him at the club if we don’t learn from his example?

He never signed a player he had never not seen play live. Totally agree with him on that, so why does not the club?

According to The Valiant at bit of both. He's played quite a lot in the MLS so isn't a complete mug. Mainly a LB or LWB but he has played centrehalf,  RB and on the Left Wing.

Quite a lot is pushing it. He played 36 games for the Colorado Rapids in the MLS, the rest in a tier below that. 173 games in 11 years is a pretty small amount which suggests either injured or bench warming.

Martin Paterson left us to play at the level he has and he got 9 goals which tells you how bad the standard must be!

I have said this before and I'm probably the only person but I don't really rate Ripley and 2 consecutive relegation battle's in League One says everything

While Ripley isn’t amazing, he is the least of our worries. We won’t be relegated because of him. His performances are acceptable.

  11. Wynne! The bloke who has not played any football since October gets a start in our most important game. You gotta be kidding. Even at his very very best his career profile is very dubious and starting him would be a wild gamble.

Personally given that yesterday was such a write off, the clever decision would have been to have given him some minutes last night.

So, you and him are manager for the Bolton game.

”Right lads. If you lose tonight, we don’t mind because these are a good team”

Yeah mate. Makes loads of sense that.

We were defeated before we kicked a ball tonight.

    That kind of attitude stinks.

Scarily, having heard Darren Moore’s post match interview that may very well had been his team talk.

Alan, Carlisle went there and thumped them. So how bad are we if that’s DM’s tactics. We just don’t turn up to any games.

Further point, Peterborough are only 4th in the table, someway off Pompey on 90 points to their 77. If we are that far off Posh’s level, no wonder we are doomed.

The odds would have been against it, just as they would have been against getting to half-time at 0-0.

But it was exactly the right plan against a high-flying Peterborough side.

Darren Moore has shown a really pragmatic approach.

Playing more openly against sides we can potentially beat, given our side's current stage of development under Darren.

And playing it really tight against sides which are clearly a lot better than us - trying to force a draw or even a spawny win on a late breakaway.

But if that doesn't work, at least not letting the GD be hammered.

Excellent football management, working with what he has got.

I wasn’t seeing much tight play in the 2nd half. Agreed in the first we tried that, but in the 2nd half they ran riot and it was like watching the footballing equivalent of the Harlem Globetrotters.

There really shouldn’t be sides that much better than us in the 3rd division. The gap was embarrassing and if we do by some miracle stay up, who wants another year watching non events like that with a wholly useless squad? It needs about £5 million putting in to get a guaranteed mid table finish from what I have seen.

As opposed to judging him when you have never seen him play.

I think that Deklan Wynne is "a promising new signing" because -

    1. I respect the judgement of Darren Moore and his highly experienced coaching staff who thought he was worth a trial and then on the basis of that thought he was worth a short-term contract as a longer trial.

    2. He is not inexperienced, he has played c. 200 professional games and he has 24 international caps at the different NZ team age groups.

Please try to be a bit more positive to help the Vale progress.

New Zealand? Come on that’s hardly the barometer of a strong pedigree, they currently have players starting who play in the Irish league and he isn’t in the frame for a squad of players to that standard?

He is some bloke who has been pulled in out of desperation. If by some miracle he is a great signing, no doubt his five game deal will see him bugger off to better things at the end of it.

This signing is another indication of not doing the business in January. If Carol had managed to get Peterborough to cancel Clark Harris’ contract to join us for the last five games, I’d have called that “promising”. Not a guy who has never played English football and nothing since October.

He actually has a point. This season comes down to how we perform in the 3 home games. Bolton and Peterborough were/ are free hits. Lose Saturday I'll be despondent.  Never expected much last night, just as well as we delivered little. Bigger issue than the result was Ojo going off. If he's out for the season we will go down.

They were free hits, but we didn’t come close to landing a hit. Agree about Ojo, big worry.

It was at times unbelievable how much respect we gave them there centre half's charging up the field playing give and goes .

They only way you beat teams like that is high press I really didn't understand why we kept letting them pass to poku and lad from Barnet all night it truly was a freak goal there first after that it was how many such were how woeful we were

We must have played at Wembley on Mon and Tues judging by how slow and lethargic we were .

I watched that Fleetwood game it was worse than that and that's saying something .

Loft offered nothing and if he is the first line of defence its no wonder teams get out so easily .

Too many players hid tonight .

I don't care if Peterborough are a good side which they are but if you allow teams play you get what you deserve .

Quite frankly at times second half I thought we would lose 6 or 7

That in itself is a massive disrespect to every paying follower /supporter tonight .

    It was embarrassingly bad .

Why did we not play like a team who want to get out of the relegation zone ?

We didn't we played like a team who were told its OK if get relegated and Crawley bring 30 fans

    Seemed like it to me

Indeed. That was the saddest bit. Nobody seemed bothered. Moore’s tactics were basically to replace Loft from running around aimlessly with Uche. Both totally had to impact on the game. Nobody dared make a challenge or disrupt their rhythm.

Carol take a look at Posh players.  This is proper recruitment and a club that is championship ready. Yes they have paid high wages, but you get what you pay for.

We are not even 1st div or 2nd div ready with this bunch of players.

Their 800k star Clarke Harris was sat on the bench having a rest. Carol won’t take a look at anything that requires spending money. She thinks we should all be grateful for a few seasons in the third division.

Bizarre, as Peterborough are barely a bigger club than us really. A club shop barely bigger than a toilet cubicle and aside from their new unused stand, pretty ropey facilities. Yet, the signings keep coming and god what a player that Mason Clarke is. Remember the good old days at Vale when we had lightening fast wingers like guppy? Peterborough did just that.

I know they carry some debt, but I wouldn’t be bothered about a mere £8 million of it if the club got promoted to the Champ, that would easily get wiped out in a season given the gulf in revenue potential.

We seem to be just using the minimum we can get away with. Although again, signing a left back who has not played since October and never in English football today can only ever be a desperate waste of money.

We are effectively playing a Championship side which hasn't yet been promoted.

When making comments about the abilities of our talented teenage players, who have so far experienced only (part of) a handful of senior games, it would be fair and constructive to remember that context.

We are playing a team currently in the same division and look about 5 leagues behind them. They have players who can run with the ball and shoot. Stronger, faster, just better athletes.

This “young players” theory that they will come good is baseless. Peterborough have the youngest squad in the EFL, all we have, regardless of age is one of the crappest.

I made a journey to so far see us barely do a thing for 84 minutes.

No he wasn’t. He was a dick from the first second he took over the club….ask Wilder.

So we all didn't love him (got dressed up as smurfs) when we won promotion?

Yeah agreed. I’m not going to rewrite history. There were many fans who kissed his ass as much as Carol’s today. Right up to the end of Page people were still giving it the “we love you papa Smurf” tosh and “thank you for your sweetie jar” guff.
