  1. Nobody signs a 5 year contract on the cusp of relegation, then leaves or gets sacked if a few months later that very real prospect materialises. This is a long term project Carol and Darren have entered into. He needs at least two windows to start sorting through the mess and making the team his own, and whether people agree or not I think that's the least he'll get.

  2. There’s no way we keep the likes of Grant, Sang, Yak etc. AND sign players better than them to push them to reserve spots. How’s that going to work, they’re on L1 wages, players better than them would want at least similar wages, and I assume the cloth will have to be cut to accommodate Salford replacing Derby etc. in the away end. We either negotiate some deals that send the 2 yearers on their way, or make do with a squad with very little scope to improve. The only place that is not the case is strikers. Only Loft and Dipepa contracted, so surely, SURELY even our recruitment team will be able to improve that situation.

Cheltenham are as bad us, Burton and Fleetwood.

At the season’s end a team will stay up with 43 or 44 points.

Thats the fact that hurts, just another couple of points or so and we could have survived.

Its possible Burton, Fleetwood and Cheltenham could all finish on 43 points .

Even Vale might if we manage to beat Cambridge but that won’t happen !

What is it something like 7 points from 24 against the bottom 4 (excluding us)?

    That’s mad. 2 wins from 8.

Do you know what I'd prefer to lose 7-3 and give it a right go.

Pointless doing another Peterborough isn't it.

Let's go down all guns blazing.

Exactly, flat back 4 and then press every other player up. 3 10s behind 2 strikers. Give the fans a reason to come.

  5. If Gore had managed to stay fit, that would have given us some creativity and stability in midfield. By now he'd be cemented and playing the same deep-lying role Devine was growing into. Losing that turned Moore's options in that position from valuable to simply damage control. He was considered a huge coup in January akin to those we'd lost, and I'm sure he'll go out on loan next year in L1 and be a huge success.

If anyone would like a straw to clutch at, after their draw tonight Bolton know that they are in the play-offs but can't make the automatic spots, given that Derby's remaining games are Cambridge and Carlisle (and Derby currently have 3 points + GD advantage).

So Bolton are likely to play a good number of their fringe players for a large part of the next two games and save their first choice players for the play-offs.

Yes, I know that it is a flimsy straw but there you go, best I've got.

But their fringe players are better than our first team. If they sub in fans we might have a chance.

  7. Ojo, Sang, Yak, Smith, Grant, Lowe, Loft, Jones, Debrah are all under contract.

That's the biggest stumbling block, repurposing as many of those squad places and wages as possible.

I really believe the main causes for the substandard, bizarre recruitment have been removed. We haven't seen a transfer window since this fundamental change. This responsibility being in the hands of other people will surely lead to Massey, Uche, Wilson, Weir, Lopata, Mighten etc. being replaced with players who are not only better, but also playing in a league below.

Add to that some decent young players who can now really kick on and develop with less pressure.

I imagine it will be a 2 year job at least though.

Just seen the post match interview with Ben Garrity, I had to turn it off after about 10 seconds he can’t even face the camera. The poor guy is completely broken. I couldn’t watch him hurting like that anymore. Probably the only one in the squad who actually gives a fuk. What a shame, as I’ve already said he deserves so much better you can see how much he loves this club & the fans. The day he inevitably leaves will be much more upsetting than when relegation is confirmed 🥹 Didn’t even bother with Moore’s interview 🥱

I'm assuming he was bitterly disappointed and the goals were due to a lack of concentration.

  9. On the plus side League 2 looks the weakest it has been for years next season, as it stands (assuming the top 4 go up and bottom 2 go down, L1 relegation, NL ^ etc.) Obviously it will look a little bit different, but even if we can't offload everyone we'd want, some tweaks and consolidation could see us midtable, with a decent crack at it in 25/26.

The alternative is play in a very competitive L1 with no-hopers replaced with serious hitters, and clubs of similar sizes swapping at the top. A season against that without being able to make sweeping changes could be a very long season.

  10. (Moore x Crosby x Clarke)100couldn't get 50 points with Ripley, Smith, Ojo, Loft as the spine of the team, Garrity and Chislett the only half decent players and no wingbacks or wingers.

I don't think Darren Moore can leave if he wants to continue a career in management.

I'm sure I read somewhere he's won 5 games of football in his last 40 odd games as manager.

    Just been relegated.

    His stock is low.

His best plan now would be to lead us into the playoffs/promotion to rebuild his reputation.

If he stays, and we're not doing well in L2, gets sacked before Christmas, he's finished.

The reality is that he needs us and we need him right now.

We can't sack him without incurring more costs and who could we attract with better pedigree? We would also be at least in part blaming him for relegation, when others should shoulder the majority of the blame.

He can't leave as like you said, nobody is going to take a chance on him until he has restored his reputation.

I really think if he is given the overall say on how to spend the playing budget, he's backed with resources to get reasonable L2 players and we can wheel-and-deal some parts that haven't worked, he'll bring us back up. I think a lot of the damage has been purged in terms of structure, but we really have set ourselves back and it could take 2/3 years of consolidation to return. If we go down!

  12. That Wynne looks a real player. Linked up well, strong in the tackle, seems very sharp and fit considering he’s missed 95% of the season. Exactly what we needed to bring in and really solidified the defence. I’ve always thought we were one short of being a formidable, consistent back line and we’ve finally found the missing piece. Great bit of business and we can finally breathe easy going into this last stretch.
