  1. Yes all good mate, certainly as well as can hope!

I'll be using this thread to run questions through for the upcoming podcasts so people can interact on here, as well as Facebook and Twitter. I love OVF and like you spent many a hour (or day!) on here over the years until one forum member ruined it for everyone for a while. Glad I'm back on here and hope we can add some extra debate to OVF, as it's a great place to have a discussion about the Vale. RobF is plugging the pod, so we're trying to plug OVF in return.

  2. Ah cheers Rob, great to hear from you! I hope you and the family are well.

You've basically nailed what we're trying to do, and I'm glad it's rekindled your passion in any way.

It will be great to get your opinions on what's happening at the club. We're hoping to get more fan interaction going as the season nears, on here and other forms of social media. I hope you will be a part of it!

  3. We're back with Episode 10! We go through the latest news for Vale, with a start date for next season, the Tom Pope disciplinary outcome and who’d we would like to win the National League play-off final.

Then we’re in to our big interview with ex-Vale and all-round top bloke Louis Dodds. Nothing is off limits here and we discuss among other things:

    - His 1st season and the turmoil on and off the field
    - Jim Gannon and the Accrington toilets
    - The 2012/2013 season, from Dave Artell leaving, the Fleetwood goal and the amazing dressing room
    - How and why he left in 2016
    - His return in 2019 and how it worked with Neil Aspin

Doddsy also shares yet again his world famous train impression! What’s not to like?!

Please subscribe and pass on to your friends!

If you have any thoughts on the items we discuss, please reply to us on here and we're happy to debate!

  4. Episode 9 is out now!

We have a quick chat about the Zak Mills signing and how it impacts the defence. Then we're in to a chat with Port Vale cult hero Peter Swan who talks about his time at Vale, whether he was laughing when he cleared Dave Regis' shot off the line, and whether Robbie Williams knows his own bank balance. As long as you don't mind a bit of swearing, it's not to be missed!

  5. Episode 8 is out now!

It's the 3 of us this week. It's been a surprisingly busy week at the Vale so we cover the news including:

    - Nathan Smith signing a new deal!

    - New Signing Alert! Devante Rodney

    - News of the new season start date

We then have a quick chat about the Player of the Year and Goal of the Season awards (Spoiler - We didn't all choose Tom Pope's at Man City)

After that we go in to the first part of the squad review ahead of the 2020/2021 season (Whenever it happens). We go through the keepers and defenders on the books, and whether we need to strengthen.

  6. We're just having a discussion in the virtual 'Ale and the Vale' office (Social distancing of many miles applies) about goal of the season and player of the season.

Bezza and Jonny have gone for Popey at Man City for goal of the season. I've thought Jake Taylor at Leyton Orient.

Luke Joyce was the pick for me and Jonny for player of the year. Bezza has chosen Wozza.

Any thoughts? We'll read the best ones out on the next pod!

Got to say guys it was a brilliant interview but you should take a lot of credit for the excellent way you conducted it.

Thanks, I will pass it on! I'm sure it used be Dave F who had this username, is that still the case?

  8. Episode 7 is out now!

Bezza's played a blinder and managed to get Carol Shanahan, Port Vale Chairwoman to come on for an extended chat! We cover many topics including:

    - How she got hooked on the Vale

    - Culture of the club

    - The financial situation at Vale and in football as a whole

    - The future of the club

    - The fantastic work the club and foundation have done during the pandemic

It's downloadable from the usual places (Apple, Google, Spotify Podcasts). You can also listen at https://aleandthevale.podbean.com

  9. Hi mate, we have thought about it but my sound editing skills are in their infancy so I need to work out how to do that at some point! I think I have worked it out but now it's finding the right tune. We were thinking about asking if there's anyone listening who fancies coming up with a tune?

I can say we've got a pretty big guest this week that we're prepping for, and then I think we might put it up as a thing, either mentioning it on the pod, or on here, Facebook and Twitter.

Cheers for the feedback, we really appreciate it as we're trying to get better!

  10. Episode 6 out now!

Just the 3 of us this week! We explain how we know each other, and why it's really my fault that we're mates. Then in to the weeks news with L2 playoffs, Nathan Smith and whether you should be able to have a beer in the stands all being discussed.

It's downloadable from the usual places (Apple, Google, Spotify Podcasts). You can also listen at https://aleandthevale.podbean.com

Please subscribe on your podcast platform and pass on to your mates. The podcast is growing and growing and we're grateful to Rob on OVF for the help he's offered!

  11. Episode 5 out now! We cover some news (Season ticket sales, new opponents and fans returning to stadiums), and then we get talking to the Sentinel and SOT Live Port Vale report Mike Baggaley. We discuss his favourite interviewees and interview, before going deep in to the idea of Salary Caps. Would it work? If so, how? He's got some thoughts from Colin Garlick on the matter. I'm quite passionate about the subject of managing club finances, so apologies if there's a lot of me talking on this one!

It's downloadable from the usual places (Apple, Google, Spotify Podcasts). You can also listen at https://aleandthevale.podbean.com

Please subscribe on your podcast platform and pass on to your mates. We're getting some good listening figures, but it'd be great to get even more involved!

Great podcast guys. The first episode was too long and had poor audio at times but you were aware of that and improved it for the next episodes.

Really looking forward to the next one. Getting a guest on and discussing their favourite ever played and their irrationally disliked player is a great introduction before you chat with them about things in general.

Hope this podcast continues cuz as I said there have been an unofficial and an official Vale podcast and they both have been silent for months. Keep it up!

Thanks mate, we really appreciate the feedback. Bezza didn't have a microphone for the 1st one, but we've sorted that now. I think the next stage will be making sure we all have some decent equipment to record with and then we should see things even more.

People are listening, and we are enjoying it, so long may it continue!

  13. Episode 4 is out now. We catch up with the latest news out of Vale Park (Season ticket refunds, PVFC Foundation work, Askey's shopping list for the summer).

Then we go in to a great conversation with Mark Porter, Chairman of the Supporters Club. We touch on the past, before going in to the positives of the last year and looking ahead to the future. If you're ever feeling down about the Vale, get in touch with Mark Porter. He's beacon of positivity for this club!

  14. Episodes 2 and 3 are out of the Ale and the Vale podcast.

It's a 2-parter. We spoke to Phil Bowers from Radio Stoke about how he got in to the Vale, before getting stuck in to some of the latest news from Vale, and we have a deep dive in to the retained list.

Any feedback is extremely welcome. We've got some great guests lined up in the next few weeks (Mark Porter,  chairman of the Supporters club is up next and will be released on Monday 15th June).

Give it a listen on all major podcast platforms (Apple, Google, Spotify - Links above) and also on the website https://aleandthevale.podbean.com/

Thanks to everyone who has listened so far. Hopefully people are enjoying it!

  15. Thanks for everyone who's listened so far. It's now also on google podcasts so if anyone wants to download on there, brilliant!

We're recording the next episode on Sunday. Radio Stoke's Phil Bowers is joining us to discuss the retained list! It should be released on Monday all being well.

As part of the episode, we're looking for 3 word views for players on the retained/released list for Vale. We'll read some good ones out

    E.g - Ryan Lloyd - Solid squad player 😂😂😂😂😂😂

  16. Rob, hope this is ok to post.

Three of us have got together and have done a Vale podcast. The first one is up now, and is basically us introducing ourselves, how we got in to Vale and our likes/dislikes that we've picked up over the years! We finish up by talking about how the season has finished and whether PPG is the right measure (Or whether other suggestions such as Tranmere's 'Margin for Error' PPG is a good alternative).

It's a long one to start (1h 15m) but we're attempting for usual pods to be around 40-50 mins once a week, until our players can start kicking a ball together again. We've got some good guests lined up to join us in the next few weeks so please give it a listen! Any feedback (Constructive please!) would be welcome. We're already aware that Bezza sounds like he's social distancing from the microphone.
