Derby County 2-3 Port Vale FA Cup third round replay, January 10th, 1990

Derby County 2-3 Port Vale

Less well-known than Port Vale’s wins over Spurs and Everton, this result is arguably more impressive than both of them. Facing a Derby side boasting England International Peter Shilton and Welsh International striker Dean Saunders, Rudge’s side put on the perfect away display. The killer third goal was a perfect example of a breakaway goal with Darren Hughes’ surging run expertly put away by striker Nicky Cross.
