Brian Horton had memorable spells as both player and manager with Port Vale. He joined the club from non-league Hednesford in 1970 and soon became a key player. He was sold to Brighton in 1976. He returned to Vale as manager in 1999 and steered the club to the 2001 LDV Vans Trophy final win.
