Our YouTube clip contains the build-up to and action from Port Vale’s LDV Trophy Final against Brentford at the Millennium Stadium in Wales back on the 22nd April 2001.
Managed by Brian Horton, the Port Vale side of the time included goalkeeper Mark Goodlad, defender Michael Walsh, midfielder Marc Bridge-Wilkinson and strike pairing Tony Naylor and Steve Brooker.
This clip also includes goals from all of Vale’s LDV group matches plus interviews with fans, players, manager Brian Horton and chairman Bill Bell as the Valiants celebrated their second major trophy success in front of a crowd of over 25,000.
The BBC Sport match report at the time recorded:
Port Vale lifted the LDV Vans Trophy after spending much of the match frustrated by a battling Brentford side.
Second half goals from Marc Bridge-Wilkinson and Steve Brooker cancelled out Michael Dobson’s third minute header.
But in the dying moments Vale were hanging on as Brentford threw everything forward in an effort to take the game into extra time.
