Brian Horton’s Port Vale FC side were victorious in the 2001 LDV Vans Trophy final which was held at the Millennium stadium in Wales. The Valiants defeated Brentford 2-1 in the final thanks to to goals from striker Steve Brooker and midfielder Marc Bridge-Wilkinson. The final took place on the 22nd April 2001 in front of 25,654 fans.
