Match build-up and preview
Despite a punishing schedule of games during the 2000-2001 season , Brian Horton’s Port Vale side now had a chance of adding the club’s second domestic Trophy to their cabinet after reaching the final of the Football League Trophy final – then labelled as the LDV Vans Trophy final. Captained by defender Matt Carragher, the Port Vale side included Sagi Burton, Marc Bridge-Wilkinson, Steve Brooker and Tony Naylor. The match took place at Cardiff’s Millennium stadium – the national stadium of Wales and Vale’s opponents were West London side Brentford.
