Management structures vary from club to club. Job descriptions/specifications will vary to suit each clubs' requirements. DoF at Vale covers everything on the pitch to ensure a common style throughout the club. Takes a few years to set a production line up. But at the same time, L1 status is essential

This is also an aspect that worries me. If we were to have a manager/coach vacancy (hypothetically) do we then ignore an excellent coach/manager just because he would play a different style of play to the one preferred by the DoF.

We then have the possibility of having a lesser coach, worse results and all that entails

  2. Main purpose of a DOF at Vale is to build it into a development club and become less dependent upon external funding.

Crewe managed to do that very well for years without a DoF. I am sure you can have someone in charge of youth development. Without their remit including, deciding which first team squad players we bring in and being higher up the pecking order than the first team coach/manager. Neither roles have have anything to do with youth development.

Yeah, Man U are trying the 'no DoF'  in the Prem, and that's going beyond amazing isn't it 🤣

I don't know the answer to this, so I am only asking. Do Klopp and Guirdiola have DoF's.

Did Alex Ferguson have one, did bill Shankly, Bob Paisley or Brian Clough, now I know they didn't.

We've got a DoF and that's going beyond amazing isn't it.

Truth is either having one or not does not guarantee success or failure. I just think it's overkill at this level. Just another big wage we can't afford. Milton Keynes have been doing it for a few years, and has completely failed at this level.

It's not up to Crosby who gets signed and who doesn't.

And there lies the problem. We have a system where the coach manager ends up with players he may not really want. The DoF system may suit the premier league with such large squads. But I have never thought it is needed in league 1. Nor do we need loads of stats analysts

  5. I hope people don't get too excited about Wilson possibly being credited with a goal. After he came on, he seemed to spend his entire time ducking out of challenges. One of which nearly led to a second goal for Wycombe.
That been said, he still remains a far better option than Loft. Who seems to be doing a really bad impression of a Sunday league player. He was the biggest guy on the pitch yet can't recall him winning one header in the box, can't cross a ball and definitely can't shoot.
I don't think I have witnessed many worse Vale displays.

  6. The roundabout I’m on about is the one at the end of the road of industrial units.  That is Hillbottom Road and the right turn takes you up Lane End Road.

Apologies, I was on about the roundabout further down. Never thought of turning right where you said. I live about 20 miles away but didn't realise you could get that way. Having looked it up that is a very good way

Lots of industrial units along the road to the ground which offer parking.  Some are a bit pricey though.  When you leave at the end, don't go back to the road leading to the big roundabout at M40  Jct 4.  If you have a sat nav turn right at the first roundabout and head up the bank.  The route is a bit wiggly but takes you to Jct 5 of the M40 and avoids all the traffic at Jct 4.

Going to junc 5 is a good way of avoiding the traffic, but shouldn't that be turn left at the first roundabout then follow the road to take you to the A40

Never been to Wycombe before, thinking of driving, anyone know where’s good for parking?

I think that car park may be closed off for away fans now. Not sure best to check. Otherwise parking is a bit of a mare. However on the road leading up to the ground a lot of companies charge a reasonable rate for their car parks.

  9. I am asking this question, because I genuinely have no idea, one way or the other. But has Crosby actually said or indicated that he made the substitutions because the computer told him to. If true I feel football in this country really has sunk to a new low.

  10. That's your opinion and I understand.
Who do you think should replace him?
    (Someone we could afford)

Gareth Ainsworth, not because he is ex Vale. Because he is a proven manager at this level. Has shown he can get good results on a limited budget. Yes he blew out at QPR but most managers have one blot on their copybook. Also he tends to play a more direct style which is a little bit more exciting than at present.

And what makes me angry is that many people whom are from the Home counties and London are socially cleansed but relocated to outer areas where there are huge pockets of relative deprivation. £25500 is the Joseph Rowntree foundation income for a single person to have a comfortable lifestyle, yet many jobs in the Stoke area pay no where near that.

People unable to access the housing market because of low wages out priced by the many moving here on London wages and paying above the odds due to their level of income thus pricing the local person out even further.

The so called Leveling up strategy by the Tory government is an absolute sham and until they level the London wages with the rest of the country we are heading for deeper and larger inequality

I can assure you that working class people in the home counties are not any better off than people living in Stoke and have less access to the housing market because of the price of housing and renting, Someone working for Tescos in Aylesbury does not earn a penny more than one working in Stoke. If you think people are been priced out in Stoke you have no idea of the prices down here. Believe it or not the minimum wage is the same down here as up in Stoke.

Those people who are moved out of London to be relocated are done so because there is no social housing for them. They don't come up on high wages most are single parent families with little or no income so they won't be pricing anyone out.

I do agree with you though the Tory government levelling up strategy is a sham and wages need increasing. But these great London wages you think people get paid is restricted to the those that work in the City of London itself and not many of them are moving to Stoke.

I do apologise I have dragged a debate over Vale Park prices into something else. So I will shut up on the subject now

  12. Really? Many people can't even afford a deposit for a mortgage!
It's a matter of perspective. Again, look at the culture in Germany, cheaper football, better football. and a better quality of life
My point is that people in all parts are struggling. I just get annoyed when people in Stoke think they are worse off than other parts of the country. Yet when it comes to buying or renting a property it is far easier and cheaper to get on the housing ladder compared to other places. I do agree that wherever you are it can be difficult. But people who rent or have a mortgage in North Staffs will have more disposable income.
I just don't think the argument that the club shouldn't put prices up because of poor Stoke-on-trent holds water. Especially when it is a small increase.

  13. Tbf All football clubs should take into consideration we are in a cost of living crisis. £25 is a lot if you are not in a well paid job...regardless that it is a 'one off game'...and after all the wages generally in the Stoke area are well below average
I live in the South East of England, Buckinghamshire. People go on about this myth of people being on far better wages than people in the potteries. If you are a teacher, work for any of the major utilities, BT, Police Officer etc, etc the wages are the same. Some may have introduced a small South East allowance and that's it. There are people who commute into London who earn good money but the vast majority of working class people earn little more if any than people in Stoke. The only real exception would be people in the building trades.
The one big difference is the cost of putting a roof over your head. My son has just purchased his first house £300,000. That is for a bog standard 2 bed semi. So for anyone who has a mortgage I can assure you people in Stoke will have far more disposable income at the end of each month.
So I find it unreal that people are moaning because they have had 3 or 4 quid put onto the price of our biggest game in years
