They aren't playing Newcastle on Sunday, they are playing Redditch in the Womens FA Cup!

Thanks, Phil - but who knew? That's my faulty memory for you - the Newcastle game is on 29th October according to the FA site. It proves my point though - it's not at all easy to find this out. There isn't even a decent search facility on the FA site that will take you straight to the Vale women without a good deal of navigation.

Anyway, for those who want to see the women's league table with the Vale sitting proudly in second, here it is:

We could all be saved this hide and seek palaver if the Vale official website had a proper women's page. Maybe Baggers will cover it!

The worst thing with some of the official coverage is when things are only put on social media and not on the official site. I totally get that social media is more irrelevant and some of the short, fun pieces wouldn't suit the website, but the website, much more than Twitter or Tiktok is the official place for the club to announce things.

It also makes sense to try and get your message (whether it's a fixture change, a club event or whatever) to the widest possible audience so the club really are missing a trick if the big stories don't go on ALL the social media channels AND the website.

Oh - and please update the youth team profiles. Quite aside from the fact it still says it's the 2022-23 season, I'm sure  we've actually got more than one player on the books!

You're right about the youth team and the women's team coverage on the main site is similarly patchy to say the least. This season, Vale have recruited well to the women's team who have won their first three games convincingly but it's difficult to get their results and league position without searching through the main FA site. Currently they're second and how many of us knew that this Sunday they have a top of the table clash with Newcastle Town women? Only one team gets promoted so it's a crucial game for the club.

It's not everyone's cup of tea, I appreciate, but you'd think the women's team would be valued enough by the club to have decent coverage on the website.

And, of course, there's no chance of the Sentinel doing it as they can't even cover the men's team properly!

    Neil Critchley back at Blackpool.

An appointment I'd liked us to have made .

You can understand why they'd appoint him but a Blackpool supporter I know said that it would not be popular among fans because he left them as soon as he got a better offer and they were subsequently relegated. Dobbie was the fans' favourite - former player and now coach got them 3 wins in their last six games.  But who listens to fans?

    Crawley Away!

We look at a couple of things in more detail that we've discussed in recent weeks. Tom Conlon and switching from 3 to 4 at the back the main topics. We go through the Supporters Club meeting and then discuss the Crawley game. Plenty of discussion on the ref unfortunately. Crawley have only won 1 of their last 5, but had a rough run of games against decent teams. Can we add to their misery, and will Clarkey switch it up again? Let us know!

Available on Apple, Google and Spotify podcasts. And here! https://aleandthevale.podbean.com

Unfortunately I think the ref will have a pivotal impact on the game. If I were their manager I'd be telling them to go down at every opportunity, especially in the peno box, because he's bound to be giving them the benefit of the doubt (which is putting it mildly). On a normal day, I'd say we'd be odds on favourites but with Kettle in charge anything could happen. My guess is we're in for a difficult afternoon.

Why on earth is this bloke still reffing?

Quality fight that. Fury for me won most rounds. Credit for wilder for sticking in there, he could have gone literally anytime after that first big hit. Complete masterclass again from fury though, just far too good.

Yes, great fight, one of the best I've seen for a long time. What surprised me was how many punches Wilder threw that failed to connect, which must have told on his stamina, whereas Fury connected a lot and his close up work with shots to the body and uppercuts was relentless, again really sapping. That punch in the third was devastating and really rocked Wilder. I would have expected it to finish earlier but Wilder found a way to keep going until, inevitably, in the tenth and eleventh he looked dead on his feet. No doubt after that.

Fury is a class act, both in boxing and sportsmanship, in contrast to Wilder who, I'm afraid, did his reputation no good at all.

All in all it’s just a really unpleasant way for it all to come to an end. With the indifferent start we’ve had, it has the potential to unsettle the club and the support for some time to come.

Yes, deeply unpleasant though I don't think it will unsettle the club. We're on a new path, have a clear way forward and the early signs are that it is beginning to work, especially on the pitch - where it counts. We also have owners who are going to ensure, as far as they can, that we don't have the resource problems that have dogged us in the past.

Sad to say, the person it has the potential to unsettle is Tom himself. On his own admission he is full of anger and hate and refuses to let it go; his dire predictions about our season - even before it's properly started - may prove totally unfounded; and I'm sure some fans will now make a point of not attending his testimonial, which would be a pity, given his service to the club.

This all would have been better left unsaid so that fans could remember Tom in the best possible light.

Hey! We're talking to Ian Taylor tomorrow. Does anyone have any questions you'd like us to ask? Send them in below and I'll pick them up and include them if we can!

Thanks, Stupers. He always said the best decision he ever made was to sign for the Vale so, if you have time, ask him what the contrast was like playing for Moor Green one day and then Port Vale the next. Was the adjustment hard to make? There must have been four or more tiers difference between the two!

PS tell him we think it was the best decision he ever made as well! 🙂

  8. Hope you're right RR.

Will be interesting see see AJ vs Povetkin, can't see anything other than an AJ win.

Saw a photo today of Eddie Hearns flanked by AJ and Povetkin - if sheer size and strength is anything to go by it has to be AJ
