  2. Stevenage have signed former Port Vale loanee Tyler Denton from Leeds United. 23 year-old Denton made 21 appearances for the Valiants during the 2017-18 season. He later had a loan spell with Peterborough United. Stevenage have agreed an undisclosed fee for the player.   3. Former Port Vale midfielder Danny Whitaker has paid tribute to Port Vale after announcing his retirement as a player. Whitaker is rightly regarded as a Macclesfield Town legend and he paid fulsome praise to Macc while also thanking other clubs he had spells at. Whitaker played 98 times for Vale scoring 15 goals between 2006 and 2008. Announcing his immediate retirement, Whitaker said “I have felt truly humbled to have represented fantastic clubs such as Macclesfield Town, Port Vale, Chesterfield and Oldham Athletic.” In an open letter on the Macclesfield Town website he said: On a cold February evening back in 2002, I made my debut for Macclesfield Town and I could not have dreamt what was to follow.   5. Port Vale have revealed that winger Cristian Montano is a doubt for the start of the new season. Montano was injured in Vale’s first friendly match of the summer against Kidsgrove Athletic. The club have revealed that Montano suffered a grade two tear and could be out for some weeks.   6. The first part of the Football League Trophy draw has seen Port Vale drawn against Shrewsbury Town and Macclesfield Town. Port Vale manager John Askey had a spell with each club before joining the Valiants. The draw will be finalised on Friday 12th July with Premier League B teams (Category One Academy teams) controversially also joining the competition.   7. The Sentinel claim that Vale are taking a look at Bradford Park Avenue player Alex Hurst. Hurst is reportedly playing for the Valiants in a behind closed doors friendly against a Nottingham Forest XI. Midfielder Hurst is 19 years old and played 25 times last season, scoring once. He joined Avenue from Northern Premier League Premier Division side Matlock Town in October 2018. The talented teenager can play left-midfield, left back or in a more forward role.   8. Port Vale will find out who they are facing in the Football League Trophy on Friday lunchtime. The draw for the competition, previously known as the Checkatrade Trophy, will take place on Friday, July 12. It will be live on talkSPORT as part of the Jim White show at 12.30pm. What is the competition format? The competition features a total of 64 teams, made up of the 48 teams from League One and League Two (24 from each division) and 16 B teams (Category One academy sides).   9. Port Vale have confirmed the signing of Cambridge United forward David Amoo on a one-year deal. An official statement said: Port Vale are delighted to announce the signing of winger David Amoo on a one-year deal. The former Cambridge United winger becomes John Askey’s seventh signing of the summer, following the arrivals of Adam Crookes, Richie Bennett and Mark Cullen. The 28-year-old arrives at the club with a wealth of experience throughout the leagues having started his career at Liverpool.   14. Huddersfield Town have confirmed the signing of teenage Port Vale winger Luke Daley (pictured left). The official Huddersfield Town website confirmed: Daley, 16, is an attack-minded, left-sided player who is comfortable on the wing or at full-back. He joins from the Port Vale Academy, signing an initial two-year scholarship and joining up with Town’s Under-17 squad, led by Jon Worthington. Cheshire Schoolboys captain Daley has been compared to Ryan Giggs and has been in the Vale junior ranks for eight years.   19. Former Port Vale left-back Kiko has moved to Olympiacos Nicosia, newly promoted to the Cyprus top tier. Kiko spent a year with Port Vale making 21 appearances but moved back to Portugal after leaving the Valiants.   23. New Port Vale striker Richie Bennett says he will work hard once he starts playing in a Port Vale shirt. Bennett signed on a two-year contract earlier in the summer and told the official Port Vale YouTube channel that he is “excited” ahead of the new campaign.   24. Port Vale have confirmed that youngsters Lucas Green-Birch and Joe Birks have agreed professional contracts. The pair have agreed six month contracts and join fellow oyuth team graduate Ryan Campbell-Gordon who has signed a two-year deal.
