Transfer Rumour: League One rivals talking to Port Vale striker Uche Ikpeazu?
Sky Sports says that Port Vale have granted permission for two League One clubs to speak to striker Uche Ikpeazu.
Ikpeazu signed for the Valiants in October 2023 in a deal which at the time was said to be “at least until the end of the 2023-24 season.”
Charlton and Wycombe are both pushing to sign Port Vale forward Uche Ikpeazu.
The player has been granted permission to speak to other clubs.
Ikpeazu has entered the final six months of his contract.
If the Sky report is correct then this would seem to be a surprising move by the Valiants. Vale are short of numbers upfront. Of the senior strikers James Wilson can be injury prone and Ikpeazu’s teammate Ryan Loft is out of form. Ikpeazu has found form after gaining match fitness and got off the mark in a draw with Charlton. In recent games, his physical style has caused problems to opposition defences and he looks to be an asset to the side at the moment.
Any transfer away could indicate that Vale have already lined up a replacement for the 28 year-old. The Valiants have been linked with 21 year-old Bradford City striker Jake Young as well as non-league prospect Adama Sidibeh. If this news report is correct could the club be freeing up Ikpeazu’s wages in order to sign a new striker?
