Team news
The Valiants will still be missing wingback David Worrall after he picked up an injury in training last week. Sam Robinson came in for his debut and could be retained for this game. Upfront, options are limited as Vale miss injured striker James Wilson who continues to recover from an injury picked up in the summer.
There were some setbacks for visitors Rotherham this summer, such as the loss of key figures Michael Ihiekwe and Michael Smith to local rivals Sheffield Wednesday. However, manager Paul Warne has managed to recruit Peter Kioso, Conor Washington, Cohen Bramall, Tom Eaves, Jamie McCart and Cameron Humphreys to the club. They started their Championship campaign with a 1-1 home draw with Swansea City.
Man in charge
Paul Warne was appointed in 2016 and has a pretty impressive record during that time, leading the club to promotion twice as well as victory in the Football League Trophy.
Pre-match quotes
We just need to get this game (Exeter) out of our systems. We will come in on Monday and regroup. They are an honest bunch of lads and have shown that over a period of time. We will learn from this…

Familiar faces
There are two Valiants who could be facing their former club. Winger David Worrall played just three times for United during a brief spell in 2013. However, it is doubtful Worrall will play due to injury. Striker Jamie Proctor spent four years with Rotherham but injury restricted him to just 29 appearances during that time.
Face from the past
Striker Lee Glover was a John Rudge signing for the Valiants back in 1994. The forward cost £200,000 from Nottingham Forest. After 66 games and 13 goals he was sold to Rotherham Utd for a club record £150,000 in 1996. He enjoyed his spell with Rotherham as the club won promotion in 2000.
Through the years…
The two sides have met before in the League Cup. It happened in 2005 and the Millers won 3-1 with Vale’s goal a penalty from Leon Constantine. The last time Rotherham visited Vale Park was in 2013 when it finished 2-0 thanks to goals from Louis Dodds and Gavin Tomlin.
Last time we met…
The two sides met in the Football League Trophy knock-out stages last season. A late David Amoo strike took the game to penalties as it finished 1-1 in normal time. Unfortunately, the Valiants lost the shootout 5-3.
Overall record
25 Port Vale wins | 13 draws | 24 Port Vale losses
