Robinson was signed on a two-year deal by former Port Vale boss John Askey in the summer of 2020 but after a stop-start first season with the club, he was transfer-listed by Askey’s replacement Darrell Clarke.
Clarke has made it clear that Robinson and fellow transfer-listed players Scott Burgess and Danny Whitehead have no future at the club. Robinson has already been linked with a possible move to Colchester earlier this summer but the local newspaper says the club’s interest is hotting up.
According to the Essex Daily Gazette:
The Gazette understands that the Port Vale striker is on the U’s radar, as they look to bring to bolster their attack ahead of the new League Two season… Colchester are interested in signing the experienced striker, although it could be in the form of a loan deal again rather than a permanent switch.
Robinson has enjoyed success with Colchester. He finished the 2019-20 season as the U’s top scorer with 12 goals, following his loan spell from Southend United.
Colchester head coach Hayden Mullins confirmed the club are interested in a forward after an injury to target Michael Folivi,. Mullins said: “We’ll have to have a look in that area now. We’ll have a look at an attacking player and see what we can do and who we can add to the squad who’ll bring similar qualities that Michael has.”
