Port Vale one hit wonders: number seven Alex Nimely
In this series we look back at players who only made a solitary appearance for the Valiants. This week we look at striker Alex Nimely
Alex Nimely in numbers…
The talented forward who subsequently became a journeyman…
Striker Alex Nimely was a former Manchester City youth teamer and was signed by manager Rob Page after a successful trial in November 2014. It looked to be a potentially decent signing for League One side Vale. Nimely clearly had talent after loan spells in the Championship for both Middlesbrough and Coventry City. Could he now be another rough diamond for the club to develop?
He made his debut in December 2014 coming on as a sub in a home game against Coventry City and things looked promising. But it was very much a false dawn.
After that appearance, it emerged that he was training with Bolton Wanderers. He was subsequently disciplined by the club. In March 2015 he was again disciplined by the club for being AWOL and after the striker hit back at the club the end to his spell was nigh.
He left Vale formally in May 2015 and after pitching for a return to his former side Coventry he suffered the embarrassment of being rejected in strident terms by then Citymanager Tony Mowbray.
After his Port Vale spell, Nimely spent three years away from British football as he moved to clubs in Romania, Norway and Azerbaijan and Finland. His most recent playing spell was with Kettering in 2019.
