Port Vale release three
Port Vale have released three players and offered contracts to another thirteen as Rob Page rebuilds his squad.
The announcement will come as something of a surprise to many fans with most expecting more than three players to leave the club.
The details are as follows:
Offered deals
Michael Brown
The veteran has belied his years with some impressive performances in midfield.
Stats: 31+7 games | 6 goals
Mark Marshall
He enjoyed an outstanding first-half of the season and has generally been one of the side’s best performers.
Stats: 47+1 games | 7 goals
Michael O’Connor
One of the stand-out players of the season, the cultured midfielder is regarded by many as a key player.
Stats: 47 games | 5 goals
Tom Pope
He has been affected by injuries this season, but on his day he is by far the club’s greatest goal threat.
Stats: 177+18 games | 69 goals
Freddie Veseli
It was somewhat surprising that the cultured defender only joined till the end of the season after an impressive loan spell
Stats: 37 games | 1 goal
Nathan Smith
He hasn’t broken through to the first-team yet, but has enjoyed loan spells that should further his development.
Stats: 0 games | 0 goals
Ryan Lloyd
This was seen as a “make or break” season for the winger but he has largely failed to make an impact. It’s therefore a surprise that he has been retained.
Stats: 2+11 games | 0 goals
Chris Birchall
The winger is now approaching the veteran stage but he still netted three times last season.
Stats: 95+68 | 15 goals
Ryan Boot
The keeper is apparently highly regarded by the club but is behind Neal and Johnson in the queue
Stats: 0 games | 0 goals
Louis Dodds
The cause of much debate amongst fans – is he underused or an underacheiver?
Stats: 194+94 games | 48 goals
Sam Johnson
Started the season as first-choice but has largely been back-up for a consistent Chris Neal afterwards.
Stats: 24+2 | 0 goals
Ben Williamson
Very much a “marmite” player. A striker who possesses pace and power but who arguably doesn’t score enough.
Stats: 77+91 games | 28 goals
Adam Yates
The reliable right-back has had competition from Veseli this season.
Stats: 212+22 | 5 goals
Released
Kaid Mohamed
After spending the majority of two seasons out on loan, it will come as little surprise that the winger has been released.
Stats: 3+5 games | 0 goals
Alex Nimely
The striker has more discipliary actions against him than appearances, so it is no shock that he has been released.
Stats: 0+1 games | 0 goals
Chris Robertson
The defender has failed to nail down a regular starting place during his two year spell with the club.
Stats: 67+4 games | 6 goals
Under contract
Chris Neal
Carl Dickinson
Ryan McGivern
Richard Duffy
Chris Lines
Colin Daniel
Byron Moore
Enoch Andoh
Achille Campion
Aziz Deen-Conteh
