Burge signs for Newport County
Burge signs for Newport County: former midfielder has signed for League Two side Newport County, it has been announced.
Ryan Burge was a regular in the first-half of Vale’s promotion push last season before he fell out in spectacular fashion following a number of ill-advised tweets before and after Vale’s game with Bristol Rovers.
The midfielder never played for the first-team again following the incident and was released shortly afterwards. He signs for a team who are backed by sites like https://www.bwin.com to be around mid-table come May.
Justin Edinburgh said of his latest signing “Ryan had a fantastic season last year, featuring in Vale’s promotion winning side and was also subject to a six figured transfer bid from a Championship Club. We are delighted to be able to acquire him at this stage of the season and he will add quality competition for places within our squad”
The “six figure bid” presumably refers to apparent interest from Peterborough United who were linked with the midfielder during the January transfer window last season.
We wish Ryan all the best at his new club.
The controversial Ryan Burge Port Vale exit
March 2013: The midfielder is dropped from the Vale squad to face Bristol Rovers and controversially tweets his dissatisfaction with it. Manager Micky Adams offers an alternative version saying Burge failed to show for a team meal. The matter prompts chairman Paul Wildes to speak to the media. Wildes says Burge still has a future at the club. The midfielder backs down via social media posts but the club say the apology came too late and suspend him for 14 days.
April 2013: The club then announce the midfielder has left by mutual consent.
