The 1982-1983 Port Vale season was a successful one for the Valiants as it culminated in the club’s promotion to Division 3. The team were managed by John McGrath and the top scorer that season was striker Bob Newton. Other notable players that season included Barry Siddall, Geoff Hunter, Steve Fox, Colin Tartt, Wayne Cegielski and Phil Sproson. The Valiants were promoted in third position at the end of the season.
