The story of the Port Vale 1982 badge design
Thanks to Port Vale fan Paul Bloor, we’re able to provide the story of the Port Vale 1982 badge redesign.
Paul kindly sent OVF a copy of the 1982 Port Vale soccer special magazine which includes this story about how the badge design came about.
It reveals that the club held a competition for local schools to design a new badge and Andrew Cripps submitted the winning design which was adopted by the club as their official emblem.
Andrew’s winning Port Vale 1982 badge design includes elements to symbolise the club including a bottle kiln, a Staffordshire knot, the club initials and the official foundation year.
