  1. I can't say I am at all happy we are relegated, but overall I feel relief that this is over. I'm glad we are down, it's deserved. I hope we a unemotional and clinical in having a proper clear out, to remove the battle-scarred, the weak, the feeble and the perennially injured.

I'm glad we have not taken it to the last game. Had we taken it to the last game, had we put up a better fight, it might have encouraged the club to keep hold some. I hope they don't

I do feel sorry for some of the backroom staff who no doubt have been trying their best to do well for the club, based on a steer from the recently departed. No doubt the new L2 regime and limited funds will mean many will be shown the door.

We have dropped through one trap door. Next season there is no safety net, a repeat of the mistakes of this season and the unthinkable could happen.

Who trusts DM to rebuild and become a successful manager of PVFC in L2 next season?

Not me. No previous evidence of building a squad on a shoe string budget - not that it means that he can't but unlike Clarke, for example, who managed to improve a poor Cheltenham squad, there is no evidence that he has improved this squad from what he inherited. Anyway, I doubt and hope he isn't here next season.

  3. What a relief, sadly quite a bit of damage has been done both in the stands and on the pitch. That is going to take time, energy and resources to resolve

I would love to hear DM say "I cannot wait to get rid of the dead wood" in about a months time - but I feel he is not a man given to public statements of this type. We shall see...

Gonna try something new tonight which is not caring and watching champions league in the pub with friends, instead of vale on ifollow.

Hopefully this tricks the universe into a decent performance. The only thing that can jolt us out of this drudgery is superstition.

If I did care enough to pick a team - I'd like to see us go back to a combative 4-3-3. Hopefully Mitch Clarke can play a bit of the game.

From what I remember about orient when they played us at home they absolutely bossed the midfield and we're everything we wanted our team to be. Therefore we need to pack the midfield and get in their faces.

If this approach works and Vale snatch a very unlikely win - does that mean you do not have to suffer watching Vale for the rest of the season, in order to give the team the best chance of avoiding the drop?

What a bind that would be..

HI, mach_vale thank for your reply i use the sign in at the top i can open the front page doing what you said but that wont let me reply to topics unless a modarater checks first  when i open ovf i get the front page then a box which comes up over the front page and says onevalefan under that it says we value your privacy with writing under that then agree  it then goes off when i agree and sign in to ovf i have to do this every time i go on ovf sorry it is long winded.

Hmmm. unless there are a flood of other people suffering in silence, my suspicion is that there is something that isn't right with your cookie settings. It's possible that they have been disabled for this website. OVF like many websites will use cookies so that it knows that you are logged in (known as a session cookie).

Can you give me the model name of the device you use to access OVF.

Sorry to say yes i am     i am 73yrs old and not very good with tec stuff

@rsb  Let me try this possibility. Are you logging in because you see a login button on the front page?

Whenever I visit from front page of OVF, I also get a login button. However if I ignore it and press Forum I find that I am actually still logged in. See image below for what I see on the front page. It shows a login button even though I am logged in.

Maybe if you pressed Forum from the front page you will find you are logged in from the last time.

It might be something else, but interested to know what happens when you try the above.

Ripley how he has not had a nervous breakdown playing behind that shower he deserves it.

Classic sign of a relegated or relegation haunted team is to give player of the season to the keeper...

I find it really quite strange that people are saying that a Director should be taking the team. He should be spending his time finding the right bloke to take the team, not doing it himself.

I think he could spare 3 hours yesterday in his otherwise busy day ringing agents and reading applications and talking to the board, to help out with the primary concern, running the club. It was his decision to sack AC the day before the game that lead to this. Sacking AC should not have been something that was completely off radar. I would hope that DF had a couple of irons in the fire.

Once again a January window, that is seriously underwhelming. Just hope we can manage to stay up, but it will be a struggle. Finances must be bad. All the teams below us have managed to strengthen

Really want to quote this tomorrow morning after something decent shows up late tonight...

You know what, and I shouldnt really say this, but:

If we havent got the money and we cannot compete realistically in league one, I personally would prefer for us to be on a sound financial footing and be perennial league two playoff contenders - more exciting than the constant worry of relegation hanging over us since we came up.

Not interested in AFC Hollywood type scenarios - just plain old vale playing some attractive-ish attacking football, on the cusp of league two success

Interesting take - and makes some sense. People like to watch a winning team. Hopefully we can see a few more and draw away from our current position.

This reminds me of one of my old friends who was a Wigan fan. Season ticket holder for years - even in the lowly Springfield Park days. He was happy when Wigan were finally relegated from the Premier league. It was great initially being in the Premier league with great players, prestige, high gates, matches on TV. But after a few seasons of watching backs to the wall games, where some of the crowd come to watch the talent on the other side, with the matches constantly moved for TV reasons (to fit in with the TV companies desire to maximise revenues based on the big clubs). After a few seasons of watching them scrape over the line, winning the occasional game, getting a few unexpected draws, the shine had truly gone. He was glad to the step down into a league where they could be competitive.

I think we can compete in this league. This should be our level when the club is performing well at all levels. Hopefully we can show we are more middle of the table.

Flickers deserves a huge amount of credit for what hes done to make us an attractive option for some of the best young talent in the country. Long may it continue.

It's significant that the ground work for this and for the recruitment was done whilst a part time DOF. This will have saved us a few quid whilst getting us out of league 2, bringing through talent from the academy, putting in place a better brand of football, working with Carol to improve the facilities, promoting the club etc.

If this makes me a happy clapper, DF lover I'll wear it. There are limited better options than DF at the price we are likely paying and there are certainly many worse.

Interesting research into football finances on Twitter.

Since 2014, there has been a collective net pre-tax loss of £2.9bn between Championship clubs.

Of the 214 teams to post accounts in that time, 181 posted a pre-tax loss

Only 33 posted a pre-tax profit - and 8 of those were relegated. Only 3 achieved promotion, and 2 of those had parachute payments.

There's been one team in the last 10 years of the Championship to get promoted, without parachute payments, without posting a loss (Burnley 13/14, although they technically did lose money due to promotion bonuses).

The biggest single year pre-tax loss? Stoke City, £88.3m in 2020. The very worst of any club over a 10 year period. They have the 5th highest losses over the last 10 years, despite only being in the league since 2018. They are very, very fortunate to have the Coates.

Football is absolutely knackered. The idea that we can ever spend our way to competing at that level is fanciful, bordering on the miraculous. You effectively have to burn through millions just to stay up. We were losing a million a year just getting out of League 2.

Dunno what my point is. I guess that it's we're so far off the Championship, especially financially, that it's daft to even think about it at this stage. There's so much to do before we can even hope to finish 20th in that league.

The championship is a busted flush cash wise.. Absolute pit of debt ridden clubs mortgaging their future for a shot at the supposed promised land whilst desperately hoping they avoid the trap door to oblivion and financial ruin that comes via relegation. It's a mess.

Manchester United have agreed to send Dan Gore on loan to League One side Port Vale for the remainder of the season. The 19-year-old is eager to experience his first proper taste of professional football, with his exit set to be formalised sometime early next week.

The Manchester Evening News understands there was extensive loan interest shown in Gore this month, but Port Vale have offered the best assurances of regular football at a competitive level for the remainder of the campaign.

Well spotted.  It's funny how this transfer forum has become a haven of bickering to the extent that this nugget which is reported in multiple sources has gone overlooked..

  14. OVF suffered a period of slow performance during a busy period over the weekend. I didn’t expect any problems so I was surprised when I popped onto the site at half time in the Reading game and noticed that it was taking a long time to load.

The problem turned out to be the webserver which was maxxed out serving the many people on the site. See below notice the 0 idle workers, no spare capacity to serve anyone else.

    Situation at 16:01

In the above snippet the scorecard shows the status of every web process. The webserver was maxxed out, but the memory and processors were fairly quiet..

hopefully the nest time this happens we can look back at this for the fix.

  15. Reading Wiki more... Jensen is part of a talented family, bit like the Nevilles

"As of 2011, Weir and his wife Fiona had four children: Lucas, Jensen, Kenzie and Ruben.[57] Lucas, Jensen and Kenzie are also footballers. Lucas and Jensen play as midfielders, while Kenzie plays as a defender. They were all born in Warrington. Lucas plays for semi-professional club 1874 Northwich.[58] Jensen is currently at Brighton & Hove Albion and has played for both Scotland and England since under-17 level.[59] Kenzie made her senior team debut for Everton in January 2022, in the fourth round of the 2021–22 Women's FA Cup.[60]"

  16. Hopefully a good signing. Certainly lots of talent coming off the Brighton conveyor belt in recent years. According to wiki he is a local lad. Came through at Wigan and parents are from Warrington, could be a loan with a view to a move back up North?
