  1. One judge scored 115-111 Wilder ! Even with two rounds going 10-8 Wilder for the knockdowns, that seems incredibly harsh.

It seems inconceivable that a rematch won’t be both fighters next bout, so where does that leave AJ’s April slot ? If he was to take the winner of the rematch, that now won’t happen for at least 12 months.

However, fair play to Fury. This was his night. Not many,if any, would have survived that final round onslaught. But yet again in a big match up, there’s as much talk about the standard of judging as to the bout itself.

    That should NOT happen.

  2. After so long out of the ring against a decent opponent, it’s difficult to see a Fury win. But then again, who gave him a chance against Klitschko ?

Fury’s ringcraft makes him difficult to hit, but I don’t see him opening Wilder up, unless the American gets frustrated and loses concentration.

I see Fury going deep into the bout, but running out of steam in the later stages.

Wilder to take it in the 9th.

Then Eddie, can we PLEASE finally see Wilder v AJ in April ?

  3. In April last year, Joshua defeated Klitschko which led promoter Eddie Hearn to announce that AJ v Wilder must happen in 2018.

Yet here we are on the eve of Joshua’s last appearence of the year and still no sign of the Wilder fight.

I really hope that this match up does not go the same way as the Mayweather v Pacquiao potential fight where both men avoided each other at all costs until both were past their best and merely looking for a decent payday.

I notice that AJ has Wembley booked in April next year with an opponent yet to be announced.

    Maybe. Just maybe ?

  4. Amir Khan announces a three fight deal with Eddie Hearn, with Liverpool’s excellent Echo Arena staging the first on April 21st. Seems to set up a fight with Kell Brook who previously seemed to avoid the former Bolton World Champion. Can he still hack it after that pummelling from Alvarez and a 2 year absence from the Ring ?

  5. Looks like AJ/Parker is on for early spring somewhere in the Uk. A nice appetiser for AJ/Wilder later in the year. Let’s hope for no slip ups and see if Hearn IS true to his word about the Wilder fight “definitely happening” in 2018. Bring it on !

  6. Superb display of boxing by Billy Joe Saunders last night. David Lemieux, an out and out slugger, hardly laid a glove on him. Let's hope Saunders is true to his word and gets in with GGG 'cause I hear there's some doubt about GGG's rematch with Canelo.

Over here in the press,Saunders is calling Govolkin out, but it seems a big ask to me. But, no doubt he’s looking for that big payday, especially as it could unify all 5 versions for the division. No doubt time will tell

  7. Carl Frampton returns to the ring tomorrow, hoping to be the first man to stop Mexican opponent Horacio Garcia. Looks a tough bout for the Northern Irishman in his first fight since losing his Featherweight Crown in January. Now with new trainer Jamie Moore and the Frank Warren stable, Frampton need a good show to kick start his career.

  8. Yep it was a controversial stoppage but Takam needed a miracle to win and AJ had started to tee up on him. When a 254lb guy starts to put all his weight and technique into a punch without the threat of anything coming back then it's time for the ref to step in. On balance I thought the stoppage was the right thing to do, boxers sometimes need protecting from themselves, better be safe than sorry.

Mouth watering prospect of AJ vs Deontay Wilder in 2018.

Agree with you’re points regarding safety and AJ was in front, but this is heavyweight boxing and ONE punch can win you the bout. But, as said, I do agree with you’re points.

  9. Difficult to see how anyone can "learn" to box in such a short space of time. Mayweather may have lost some of his old spark, but surely not the ring craft to get caught by what is in effect a slugger. Mayweather in 5 for me.

  10. I know what you're saying KK and agree for the most part but if there are not mandatory defenses with a penalty for not taking that defense then some boxers can choose not to fight or fight who they want eg Billy Joe Saunders the WBO Middleweight title holder. Saunders should have been made to defend his title against a top Middleweight by now someone like Golovkin, Danny Jacobs or David Lemieux but has only fought once in 20 months and has somehow now chosen to fight Willie Monrow Jr who's a good but not an elite fighter.

For the future of boxing it's imperative the best fight the best and I would have thought if Billy Jow Saunders thinks he's the best then he should prove it and get in the ring with Golovkin, don't lose your pen when the contract's there to be signed.

There's been a more ominous development in the US over the last ca 5 years in that a secretive guy called Al Haymon signed up about 175-200 of the world's best boxers, bought airtime on tv and staged boxing cards of fighters from his own "stable" headlined by World Champions fighting 3rd or 4th tier boxers. The result was the "Headline" bout lasted 2 or 3 rounds and was so obviously a miss match that fans stopped watching and shows cancelled on tv.

I'm unsure where all this stands at the moment but the tide does seem to have been turned in the US as there have been some tremendous bouts recently with the best fighting the best, eg Adrien Broner vs Mikey Garcia, Errol Spence vs Kell Brook and Vasyl Lomachenko vs Marriaga and in Sept. GGG vs Canelo etc, etc.

    Top post !

  11. There are two US boxers Deontay Wilder (38-0-0) and Luis Ortiz (23-0-0) who would both give AJ a good fight but I would favor AJ against both although all three can bang so each fight would probably be edge of the seat job.

Paul, now the Klitchsko fight is a no go, is AJ likely to take a lesser fight first, or straight in with one of the three mentioned above ? If it's the latter, would Vegas still be on, or is it back to the O2 ? Is AJ "Box Office" enough yet for U.S. fight fans ? What do you think ?

  12. It's always a difficult proposition to score a boxing fight 'cause some judges favor who's landed the most punches whereas some favor who's landed the best/harder punches, there's no rule or dictate unless there's a KO!

I watched the fight on Youtube and have no problem with the decision in favor of Horn with the proviso that being ringside is really the only way to judge the best/harder punches. Two judges scored it 115-113 in favor of Horn which seemed about right however, one judge scored the fight 117-111 to Horn which was a bit out of quilter IMHO. It was close and a difficult fight to score but Pacquiao didn't do enough for me, the 9th round was a big round for Pacquiao but Horn had his big moments to.

On a different note, but will it ever be possible to go back to the old days when every weight division has ONE champion ? Nowadays I'm a passive boxing fan and with so many different "councils" it's difficult to know who the "real" champions actually are. Occasionally the divisions are unified, but rarely.

  13. I see Manny lost in quite a interesting way , didn't see it myself though i have read online the judges were in favour of Horn and he headbutted manny a few times . Quite sad to see this as a few years ago manny was for me the best fighter in the world and should have fought Mayweather years ago if Floyd wouldn't keep putting the fight off knowing he had a real chance of getting Knocked out.

Speaking of Floyd , all of a sudden everyone loves boxing now as this circus of a fight draws closer with Mcgregor .

All about GGG vs Canelo for me , very excited to see the two best fighters go at it.

Also rumours of Bellow possibly fighting Ward which would be interesting

Just read that Pacquiao has had his fight against Horn rescored by WBO judges "who reached the same result" Hardly likely to disagree are they ? Boxing, sometimes ,doesn't half shoot itself in the foot with uneccessary decisions and comments like this.

  14. Any news on Joshua v klitchko in L.A. ? Went to LA 2 years ago and my daughter who works in the Hotel industry blagged us into Caesars Palace to see Celine Dion. Not my bag, but this fight there or the MGM Grand would be amazing. PS anyone who has not been to L.A., put it on your bucket list !
