I think by games he means appearances. I think it's bit unfair to lump Massey in there though. He's played out of position upfront and then a lot of his appearances have been at wingback.

If you make it Loft, Ikpeazu and Wilson, for instance, then it's five League goals in 42 appearances.

Thanks Rob, shocking that even with 42 appearances between them. Even more shocking that I actually thought that Vale fans were smart enough to work out that the appearances were combined seeing as we don't play 68 games in a season, never mind half of one. 😀

  2. Too many posts in this thread for me. Are any of the guys strikers? Between the injured Uche, the semi permanent injured Wilson and prolific Massey, our forward line has amassed 5 goals in open play this season from 68 games. How scary is that?

It doesn't matter a toss what other clubs do, or what happens to them! We may not be unique - that doesn't make the problem any less real. Also, I'd guess there may be a difference between Pompey's budget (their attendance is roughly 3 x ours!)?

What I am saying is, we can't use injuries as an excuse, it is part of the modern game.

We let 11 players go, in Summer and brought in 13 (4 on loan). We've since then sustained about 12 injuries - how the Hell are we supposed to legislate for that? Would you have broken any budget by bringing in another 12 players, just in case? Is that how you'd approach any transfer window? Bring in double the number of players we need, in case we get some injuries?

Pompey had 8 players out when they played us. Spurs v Brighton, 20 players out injured. We are not unique.

Even in victory some still find ways to temper it.

Weirdly when the 3rd went in to put it to bed I wondered if those who openly hoped we’d lose tonight were celebrating that goal and enjoying a good victory?

This morning was totally different and the approach is what I want to see more of. Ie, going for the throat instead of the regular side to side tippy tappy.

The start was slow but we got better and better and against a poor Blackpool side but no matter who is in front of us, good or bad I would rather see us lose by going for it than sitting back see what happens.

If Crosby can stick with dropping Massey from the matchday squad altogether like today then great, play players in their favoured positions like today then great.

When I saw the line up I thought 'hmm, that looks great, we could win this, which means Crosby gets even more time'. I was disappointed with that, but delighted and relieved with a convincing win at the same time.

It looks like Crosby is going nowhere. So all we can do. Support the players on the pitch as much as possible and get behind them. Booing the team, eg, Loft is a disgrace. Vent your frustrations on here by all means but anybody wearing black and white out there need our full backing.

For once, I am a really happy, delighted Vale fan. Happy to say that Crosby picked the best side for today and the performance was spot on.

For arguments sake did you enjoy last season

The football is miles better this season crossing the ball in 200 times and no one on the end of them crosses is to me rubbish football there's no way you can aim that at this year's team .

I'd like have a look at overall goal attempts over a season bet we in top 10 for attempts at goal.

Our weakness as being our defence yet again as we have lost 425 games in ten years only Crewe 441 have lost more .

There you go in a nutshell theres your problem .

I know we are bad, but do the maths. That is losing 42 games a year on average, taking cup defeats into account means we lose 39 league games which leaves 21 points a season on average at best.

I've already had my moan ! Can't understand why it's not Saturday.

I know we are playing Monday but that was the norm in years gone by.

We used to play NY eve and NY day back in the day and also August Bank Holiday Saturday and Monday. Poor footballers can't take it anymore.

Sat in the Hamil, usually in the Paddock but can't for obvious reasons.

Absolute rubbish but I actually don't blame the players. Every time we have possession or a throw-in in a dangerous area, we decide against playing a risky pass to go for an attack, go backwards and end up at the keeper/full back who then ends up playing a rubbish pass under pressure from their strikers.

That being said, not happy with the fans booing Ripley and the fan having an arguement with him at the end of the half. Any League 1 keeper who was passed back to and had as much possession as him would get found out equally as much. The tactics tell the players to bass back to him as often as possible. No problem with fans showing what they think of Crosby's tactics but Ripley is one of  the few reasons we have any points this year...

I don't think the fans are booing Ripley but the total negative standard of play.

Andy Crosby will go the way of all Port Vale managers and part company with the club at some point. But how that happens is as of yet unknown despite the rantings of a few on  here who seem to have some strange urge  to make things as difficult as possible for him and in some ways for other supporters such as me who actually like and look forward to going to the games.

We are mid table in 1 having reached a quarter final of the league cup with our top scorer and best midfielder both having recently signed extended contracts, due in no small part to the manager. We have attracted better youngsters from premier league teams than ever before, the money on the pitch looks to have worked as by now it would normally be cutting up, we are actually selling talented youngsters to premiership teams and have young players of our own on the verge of the 1st team. We are trying to change the way we play into a more possession based game so that we can attract better players and the foundation / youth set up is better than ever.

Of course it doesn't mean we are 100% happy with our club as supporters we should always try and drive it forwards with support but basically if you are that unhappy with the club in its current state you need to find yourself a new hobby and not bother going ...  from an overall picture point of view the club is better placed than I can remember. And I've been going since 1971 and my dad and grandad before me.

But instead of waffling on lets give it some context.

Of the clubs who came up with us:

Forest Green (smaller than us) relegated and struggling in league 2

Exeter (about the same size club as us) below us in the league

Bristol Rovers (Larger club than us) : 2 points above us in the league.

None of the above suggests to me that we are as bad as people on here are raving on about.

We can also look at a couple of play off winners who came up the same route as us in the season before and season after us.

Carlisle : (about the same size club as us) below us in  the league

Morecambe (smaller club than us) : now back in league 2

Each to their own but I think the weaker minded people think its somehow clever to swear and run down their own club.

As I've said before we will end up with the team the supporters deserve.

UTV and here's a novelty : enjoy the game.

Are you currently happy with the game? I have never read such twaddle in all my life.

  10. I would expect progress on last season but we are worse off points and position wise. Crosby should have gone at the end of October, it is now too late for a new manager to use the January window. All we can do now is support with the very little enthusiasm that we have left and hope for a miracle.

For Middlesborough, I wouldn't be surprised with a 1-0 win or a 7-0 spanking. In the league we need to be better than four other teams, recent and long term form shows we are slightly better than Exeter, Cheltenham will overtake us and so will the rest. If we keep going as we are with no change in tactics or the way we do things then we are down.

Would our current squad beat the promotion squad? Not a chance, that is really disappointing. No doubt Smithie is still happy to watch us crumble though.

It looks like they've just 'sold' to themselves?

SYNECTICS SOLUTIONS (HOLDINGS) LIMITED (owned by Carol and Kevin) now own a controlling stake in SYNECTICS SOLUTIONS LIMITED.

How does that work and what would be the point? I have no idea how the inner workings of company law work.

  12. Can sports science measure adrenaline and the desire to win? Can it <ovf censored>.

It should be a side dish, a compliment, not the main course. I would love hear what the late Brian Clough would have to say about it.

Have just been informed that the last 4 payments to a much needed matchday service have bounced. Straight from the horses mouth too. Also, a big announcement is going to be made in January. My guess is Carol is going to sell to Dono finally and he is going to get Robbie involved. If my guess is true I think that means that we are stuck with Crosby regardless of results until any announcement is made.  Also, the work on the toilets has been delayed because she is trying to get the council to pay for the work.

Donno ain’t buying as she ain’t selling!! She would sell her house or her company first just like V2001.
It looks like the former as herself and Kevin look to have posted a cessation of controlling interest in Synectics.

Dunno if has already been posted.

Hahaha, even though I was ahead of the game when I said how bad we were after struggling to beat Northampton with the sideways tippy tappy crap. Now more and more fans seem to agree. Results proving me right even though I hate it. Really hoping to be proved wrong so I can eat humble pie. I just don't understand why I saw it and nobody else could, maybe it's because I am away from home while Vale fans were whipping each other up into euphoria during the 'good run' of results.

Crosby needs to go so a new manager can improve the squad in January. Last January we declared on 35 points and sat back, we have done it earlier this year, unless a change happens PDQ we are royally shafted.

Does the fault lie with him or the failure of the club to get a goalscorer in the summer?

Well,  he is the manager and should be signing and identifying players. So it does stop with him, and so does playing ineffective tactics week after week. We needed a new manager at the end of October (that being kind) so the new guy could find out what he needs for January. Come Christmas when Crosby is finally sacked it will be too late.

It is a complete farce to keep holding on. I have zero faith in the club at the moment, we cannot even say 'but for Wigan's point deduction we would be lower, they leapfrogged us. I cannot see where the next win is coming from.

I think this reserving folks season tickets was a error .

    First come first served .

So according to Baggers figures which could be pie in the sky.

    5958

3011 them so just under 9k be sold as soon as Boro can sell there's as I think they will sell out quickly personally .

How many can our ground hold used be 22.500 years ago probably 13.500 now .

So 4500 to sell in four weeks for a cup tie which if was played tomorrow and folk had to queue get them they would and it would build a buzz not giving folk till whatever date they set .

I have seen 22k v Stoke a few times, and Watford when the Bycars was standing but I think it was extended along with the Hamil to keep the same capacity when it eventually became all seating. I am sure Billy Bell said that the Lorne Street (When completed in 2035) would hold 5,000 people the same as when it was standing to keep the capacity at 22,500 (after a reduction following Hillsborough).

I think when we played Spurs, Watford, and Stoke the capacity was 24,000. The last time I saw more than 15k was when we played Arsenal Bill Bell announced 14k.
