  1. Anything less than 10-0 will be a good performance. I am feeling positive so I had a few bucks on just 8-0 to Bolton, with Will Forrester to score at anytime paying odds of 1447/1.

I will be watching live from Koh Phi Phi until the 3rd goal then I will be off firedancing to drown my relegation sorrows.

I've just been reflecting on how so many of my greatest memories as a Vale fan have involved cup replays.

The FA Cup giantkillings over Southampton, Derby County and Everton were all achieved via a replay. The 1988 cup run involved two replays while the 1998 penalty shootout loss to Arsenal was also the result of a replay.

Further back and before my time, the famous run to the semi-final in 1954 also involved a replay win in the early stages.

    :upthevale:

On the flip side, Canvey, Chasetown and yes Arsenal. I think for David's v Goliaths, most small teams will have a better chance to progress than it going to a replay and in turn take home a winners cheque. I don't think it's a bad thing.

EDIT: Just had a quick count up going back to 87-88. I think we have won 12 and lost 8 replays. SO we have benefited from them overall. However, the big games we lost, Watford, Leeds, Arsenal, we would have had a better chance to win on penalties the first time around.....but then again we lost on penalties to Arsenal anyway so maybe not. Then look at the Dartford replay, Dartford traveling all the way to Stoke on a cold Tuesday night in winter. Was that of any benefit to anybody either?

Maybe I am 50/50 on this having thought about it.

    Christ.

Yes, let's reward failure with a sing song. Maybe we can break into a Crosby song too after?

If you were smart enough to understand that we need Carol, then you would understand that it isn't a reward. She needs us, we need Carol....until Mr.Billionaire comes in which won't happen in my lifetime.

  4. Even if we get rid of the dead wood which is rotting we are still left with a load fungus laden dead wood under contract. So what scares me, is that I am thinking who on earth, as a player would want to come play with this crop of cow muck that we have.

We are really gonna struggle to stay in league next season. People not looking forward to Crawley away? They may be overtaking us.

  5. I can't see that anything has improved under Moore, it takes some doing to be worse than Jim Gannon. I just can't watch his interviews as they are painful to listen to. He does nothing for me. It will take a massive turn around for me think he is doing a good job.

Unless I've missed stuff said in the press conference, there's been no word on Jones and Mighten. I presume they may be both injured if they are not in the squad at all.

I was trying to conjure up a starting eleven and there's a real issue at LB/LWB. I wouldn't start the new signing, it's too big a risk but I have no idea what to do. I'd almost be tempted to play Plant (out of position) as LWB but then who plays as RWB - Sang (who has been badly caught out of position recently)? Massey? Lomax (probably too great a gamble)?

At any level, any footballer played out of position may say that they are happy just to play, the reality is that is will destroy them. They become professionals in their position by playing well in that position all of their lives then you think they may have to change at a professional level?

Even the discussion of this shows how bad we are. Plant scored a few goals last season I think, every player, rookie or veteren should always always always be in their natural position.

Just my opinion as a Sunday league player mind. 😀

Yet it is an industry where the workers take home big wages. Even in league 2. Where else would uneducated men like Ryan Loft get £3,000 + a week for being awful?

On Wednesday I spent £27 plus programme and food to watch what was an evening of non entertainment. I can’t think of any other circumstance with life where I would spend that sort of money for nothing in return, let alone a whole season in doing it.

I just deleted what I want to say which is directed towards the Prem, the FA, FIFA.

Accept it as rant rant rant rant. 🤣

Regards Chislett, he didn’t look 100% in the pre-match warm up - lots of ‘stretching’ rather than ball-work and lots of chat with coaching staff/physio(?), however, it didn’t show when he came on, though, unusually for him, he ran straight down the tunnel at the end - could be illness rather than injury and he just need the bog 🧻

Regards the game, despite what some have said, I thought there was plenty of effort without the ball just very little quality for the short times we had it.  I said in another thread I felt pre-game the same as I did before the Ipswich game at the end of last season the performance was similar with regards the back-to-the-wall defending (especially first half) but that’s as close as we came to emulating the Ipswich game. Bolton apart, fortunately we won’t encounter the same attacking threat posed last night (I thought Mason-Clarke and Poku were class and am sure would give any opposition wingbacks/fullbacks a hard time let alone the makeshift ones we’ve had to field this season) and that gives me a glimmer of hope that we may still get something out of our remaining fixtures that at least gives us a chance of staying up.

Thanks for that, that gives me slight hope for the Exeter game but I just did my match prediction. Just as you shouldn't rename a boat, I won't change my prediction and hope for the best.

  9. Why aren't the FA doing something about this. If every team is losing millions chasing success while the Prem makes billions then something is seriously wrong with football. When the likes of Man City can buy a 100 players for the youth policy of which most will be cast aside instead of being blooded at a lower level, it smacks of pure greed. Football is shot, it is an awful industry.

  10. A couple of things, more money for Vale as folk like me gave up on Ifollow years ago due to the less than acceptable quality in the first three seasons.

It was mentioned a while ago that games would be streamed on Sky Sports outside of the 3pm blackout, therefore it makes sense to close down iFollow domestically.

If iFollow continues overseas then its a win win for all.

  11. I didn't watch it, what formation was it? BBC Sport suggests 4-5-1 with Garrity, our main goal threat wide right. WTF??? I saw that and thought we cannot defend for 90 minutes, they only need one goal and game over, we have nothing out there that is any threat. Chislett on the bench? Rested or carrying a knock?

    3-0 shows where we are.

  12. If we can keep our 12th clean sheet of the season (I think), then that is very commendable. Maybe, just maybe we claw ourselves out of this.

Will Posh be knackered after Wembley or absolutely raring to go?

Again, I have no idea which way it will go, so will go with the table as it lies.

    Posh 3 - 1 Vale.

  13. I am gutted for him. When we needed him he stepped up and was part of a great promotion team. While I think we should do what we can to support him, the best we can realistically offer is a play and pay deal which I don't think would be good for him. A lower slower level which is easier on his body would be better for his immediate future.

He has my best wishes. Good luck to the lad.

  14. I think we can write off Posh and Bolton (hope to be wrong), but I think we will need another 7 or 8 points. So 2 wins and 2 draws.

I cannot see us getting anything at Wigan, so that makes it even more tricky. Thankfully I gave up ages so if we stay up it is a massive bonus.
