  1. If Robbie Williams was seriously  interested in being the owner of Vale he would have likely become the owner in the relatively  recent past.

IMHO Anyone would be crazy to want to own a football club, if events don't go as well as some fans perceive then the "Mob" comes out in force, dissing not only the owner but members of their family.

Football clubs are not always on an upward trajectory in a straight line, there are hiccups on the way, set backs, sometimes a step backwards to go forwards.

IMHO Continuity under the current ownership is the way forward for PVFC.

Don't know who made the point on here but it was valid and correct . Given our horrific defending of corners and too many cooks. Just leave 2 up and they'll have to leave 3 back.

Instead there's about 20 players in the penalty box.

True Darren and with all the Vale players contained within the 6 yd box.

It's still too soon to beat Darren Moore up over our performance as he's been dealt a poor hand courtesy of our DOF. There's no question that our recruitment has been a disaster and the now departed loaners were disguising it.

That said, I would have expected him to create some sort of new Manager bounce but obviously not. It's all very disappointing to say the least.

    Flitcroft out!

I agree and as you say I also expected a tad better, particularly organization/defending.

Eg, the two goals vs Oxford were schoolboy errors, especially the second, and why from set pieces there  is not one or two Vale defenders around the D to defend any ball that's headed/cleared out is beyond me, all Vale's defenders seem to be clustered around the 6-yard box.

Cheltenham's equalizer in 1st half injury (a tad unfair as it was Moore's 1st game in charge) time and the mis-hit shot from the edge of the D that went straight to a Shrewsbury defender for their 2nd goal come immediately to mind, both second balls would/should have been cleared by Vale players with better organization.

Vale were poor at defending set pieces under Crosby, certainly no better under Moore.

I think the Bruno / Brown team from last time we got relegated was pretty horrific too. I seem to remember we had literally no CB’s so had to ship Andre Bikey and Ryan Taylor in, whilst relying on deadly JJ Hooper and big Reg for goals. I think Bikey and Des Walker’s lad (Tyler was it?) got injured just as they were starting to look good. I’d say this team is worse though, I literally cannot see us winning another game.

Michael Brown managed to sign Chis Eagles for the second half of that season with his Prem Lge feet and footballing brain and he nearly single handedly kept us up, Bikey was an excellent acquisition also.

Brown lost Alnwick, Grant and Alex Jones just before the Jan transfer window closed and Tom Anderson earlier, if just one of the first 3 had stayed Vale may have just survived.

I can remember been hacked off the season after as Eagles opted to go and join Owen Coyle at Ross County, Tom Pope had been re-signed by Brown and the mouthwatering prospect of Eagles providing the crosses for Tom Pope didn't happen.

I don’t think any of the young lads as starters yet , neither are they players to build a squad around yet. There’s a long way to go in their development.

Assuming Vale are gonna be in Lge 2, IMHO the squad needs to be based around experienced, good  Lge 1/2 pro's who will form the bulk of the 1st team, complemented by the young lads.

But most of all Vale need a couple of natural goal scoring strikers at least to score the goals if we are to win/contend for promo. The same mistakes regarding recruitment of strikers cannot happen again

  6. There are many successful football managers who are not articulate, it doesn't matter. Being articulate is not what matters for a manager, it's performances on the pitch that mater and the two are not related.

I would argue that Andy Crosby was more articulate when giving interviews on camera than Darrell Clarke.

Give Darren Moore a chance, being in Le 1 with a Lge 2 squad is tough.

I'm really not sure what argument you're making.

I said there is a route out for us, but relegation would be really damaging. If we go down, it is at Flitcroft and Carol's door.

What about those points are diametrically opposite to each other? I'm not sure you have a clue, mate.

You took a pop at me for suggesting "Vale may have to take a step backwards to go forwards", something which I certainly prefer not to happen but then you post "if relegation does happen," which I consider opposite to your original post.

Take as many pops at me as you like but at least be consistent.

Anyhow I was encouraged by last night as DM saw the failings and problems at Cheltenham and changed the formation for the Reading game and Vale looked more solid. Only a superb strike undid us, the 2nd came about due to pushing too many players forward in search of an equalizer

We need to stop saying stuff like 'maybe we need to step back to go forward'.

Relegation will be a very bad thing for us.

  9. Football is a cruel game and that loss is irritating and galling to say the least.

Vale played and looked better with the new formation but when you can't score goals it's hard to win football games especially when goals are regularly conceded at the other end.

DM has a hell of a job on his hands to keep us up, next two games are crucial to survival..

You were saying something diametrically opposite this morning, at least try and be consistent with your comments.

I'll lose no sleep if she decides to walk.

Recent history suggests you won't get any sleep.

  11. From the Youtube video Dan Gore looks the type of player you would pay to watch, hope it goes extraordinarily well for him at Vale.

Gore, Weir, Chislett, Wilson, Funso, Garrity.....impressive.  I reckon we'll also get more of a tune out of Uche and Loft.

Need a striker and LWB now.

Going on vacay for 3 weeks and may not be able to see/listen to the games, I may cancel the vacay.

  12. Sad to see Devine and Blaster go but jensen Weir could be more than an adequate replacement for one of them (Based on his Cameo at Reading and his stuff at Morecambe) and we may have a chance of signing him permanently if he does well.

Vale are certainly attracting some better quality loan players these days.

  13. Rhys Williams looks a great signing on paper, time will tell whether he's the real deal. Vale have needed more height at the back and at 6' 5" and if he attacks the ball he could be the answer.  Most likely had some pretty useful mentors at Anfield.

Priority this season is to stay in Lge 1, think about whether we can make him our player after we've achieved Lge 1 status.

I would imagine the last one was Lucas Covolon wasn't it?

I think certainly recent seasons (especially the influx under Askey - Kieran Kennedy, Fitzpatrick, Trickett-Smith, Rawlinson, Callum Evans, Jordan Archer, Jonny Maddison the list goes on) may have skewed some opinions (perhaps deservedly) on concentrating too much on non-league 'bargains'. That list shows you need decent scouting to select the wheat from the chaff. However, the likes of Peterborough have shown it can be done if you do it properly and pick out only the top prospects.

For me, I wouldn't want to see a sudden influx of half a dozen non-league players like Askey brought in, but I wouldn't be unhappy if the club bring in the odd one to see if they can develop them.

Same with overseas players from lower European leagues, one or two brings interest and possibility whereas the 12+ Ribeiro bought in brings relegation.

  15. The older I get the more accepting I get and the more the ups and downs are smoothed out hence I'm a Crosby In guy as he's done a decent job, not stellar but not bad. Without a ton of money to spend, particularly on a striker(s), it's hard to score the goals to consistently be in the top 6.

The time to be changing the manager at this stage of the season is if Vale had been in the bottom 6 since the start, which has clearly not happened.

Good move by the club but it does show what a bad state we are in that we have not been able to find a striker any way near as good as Wilson in the last 3 seasons and are having to keep on the books a player we will most likely only get a dozen games a season fully fit.

Vale have obviously had strikers who've scored more goals than Wilson and that's the bottom line for a striker. However,  have we had a more skillful striker, one with such a sublime touch, creativity, vision and quality strike on him.

Off the top of my head I can only think of Tony Naylor who comes close.

  17. I want not only Crosby to manage James Wilson's time on the pitch but Willo to manage himself on the pitch as well. Don't go in for any ball there's a chance of getting an injury, leave getting the ball back to the players who are better equipped to do it.

By now Vale fans know what the deal is and why it's important to keep Willo fit and on the pitch for as many minutes as possible.

  18. Great 3 points, Vale will play better than that and lose.

Tremendous effort from all the players, Shorrock excellent, Devine devine, Chislett and Garrity ran their socks off, Uche doing Cruyff turns just great and well deserved.

Not many players in Lge 1 who can strike a ball like Wilson, pleased he's staying.

Is Garrity managing Stoke as well.
