  4. New Port Vale striker Richie Bennett says he will work hard once he starts playing in a Port Vale shirt. Bennett signed on a two-year contract earlier in the summer and told the official Port Vale YouTube channel that he is “excited” ahead of the new campaign.   5. Port Vale have confirmed that youngsters Lucas Green-Birch and Joe Birks have agreed professional contracts. The pair have agreed six month contracts and join fellow oyuth team graduate Ryan Campbell-Gordon who has signed a two-year deal.   6. Local business Autonet have been unveiled as the new sponsors of the Hamil Road stand. The deal will being in further revenue for new owners Carol and Kevin Shanahan on top of heavy season ticket sales. Autonet founder Ian Donaldson told the Sentinel “As a local business we have always been passionate about giving back to our local community. “Port Vale is a huge part of Burslem and its community and, as I already do business with Kevin and Carol, I was very keen to get involved in their new venture as the owners of Port Vale FC, a club that played a huge part in my own childhood.   7. The talk is all about trialists at Vale Park right now, but how did last season’s trial players get on? Gime Toure / released The powerful striker (pictured right) played for Vale in their friendly with Kidsgrove but wasn’t taken on. He has moved twice in the meantime. He began the season at AFC Fylde where he scored four goals in just six starts. In December he moved on to Sutton United where he managed a further four goals in eighteen starts.   8. The Sentinel newspaper reports that Port Vale have taken on three trialists ahead of their opening friendly game. Manager John Askey is looking to strengthen his squad and the paper claims that a right-back and two goalkeepers have joined the side in training. Askey is looking for a replacement for departed keeper Sam Hornby and competition for right-back James Gibbons. The trio could feature in the club’s opening friendly game against Kidsgrove.   9. Port Vale have announced that they have sold just short of 3,500 season tickets during the early bird period alone. The number is just short of the 3,500 season tickets sold in total last season and does not include hospitality tickets which were included last season. With the inclusion of hospitality tickets this season’s total figure is already over 4,000. A message on the official Port Vale website said: Port Vale would like to thank every single supporter who purchased an Early Bird Season Ticket for the 2019/20 campaign, with the total number of season tickets sold coming to 3,416. A player who failed to make the first-team grade at Port Vale but went on to enjoy promotion in Ireland His time at Port Vale Gary O’Neill was one of a crop of player brought in by owner Paul Wildes to form the Port Vale Development squad. The team was coached by Jimmy Bell but only Jordan Hugill was to make an impression on the first-team. It was disbanded when Norman Smurthwaite took over as sole owner after he said it was too expensive but arguably the development squad did its job. Prior to the changeover, Port Vale had worn a variety of colors including white and red. The club even wore a white and red striped shirt similar to their regional rivals Stoke City at one time.   15. Port Vale have revealed that they have sold over 3,000 season tickets with days of the early day period still remaining. The club told the Sentinel newspaper that they had sold 3,075 by Friday evening. The club is also not including hospitality box sales in the figure – unlike other recent seasons. Last season’s total was 3,500 and with two days left in the early bird period plus sales after that still to come, that figure should be comfortably broken this season.   16. Former Port Vale defender Chris Banks is returning to Vale Park as the club’s new physio. The club’s current physio Alex Poulton will act as Banks’ deputy. Banks progressed through the club’s youth ranks to make 87 appearances between 1984 and 1988. He helped the club to promotion in 1986. He later had lengthy playing spells with Bath City and Cheltenham Town. Banks qualified as physio and has had a lengthy spell at neighbours Stoke City.   18. Port Vale manager John Askey says there has been interest in transfer-listed pair Connell Rawlinson and Ben Whitfield. The duo were transfer listed at the end of the season as Askey looks to remodel his squad. Askey told the Sentinel newspaper: “There have been one or two inquiries. Hopefully they can get sorted so they can progress in their careers. But if they don’t, then if we feel we can use them, then obviously we will.” Both players were signed by former manager Neil Aspin.   19. Former Port Vale striker Graham Barnett has sadly passed away at the age of 82. Barnett played 55 games for the club, scoring an impressive 37 goals. The striker scored 20 goals as the club won promotion at the end of the 1958-59 season. Barnett later moved on to Tranmere Rovers, Halifax Town and a spell in Australian football.   21. National League side Wrexham have added a strike partner for recent recruit JJ Hooper. Hooper will be joined by former Port Vale loanee Mark Harris who has joined on a season-long loan from Cardiff City. Harris spend a low key loan spell with the Valiants last season. He joined the club on the 23rd January but made just three starts and three sub appearances without scoring by the end of the season.   23. Port Vale have signed former Blackpool striker Mark Cullen while midfielder Ryan Lloyd has rejoined the club. Two club statements said: Port Vale are pleased to announce the signing of Ryan Lloyd on a one-year deal, with the midfielder set to join the club when his contract expires at Macclesfield Town.   25. Port Vale have announced that striker Ricky Miller has left the club. The striker joined on a two-year contract in 2017 and scored six times in 35 appearances.
