Friendly Preview: Altrincham v Port Vale

It’s a midweek friendly fixture for the Valiants and a trip to Altrincham’s Moss Lane stadium for Vale’s final warm-up game.

Preamble

Rhys Walters – will he get a change to impress?

It will be interesting to see Vale’s line-up for this game after the home loss against Birmingham at the weekend. It will be interesting to see who starts for Vale – with the likes of Rhys Walters and Ryan Croasdale probably eager for starts after Funso Ojo and George Byers began in central midfield on Saturday. It’s doubtful that Sam Hart and Ronan Curtis will feature after they were rested after picking up knocks last week.

The Opposition

The hosts were also in action at the weekend and like Vale, ended on a losing note with a 3-1 loss to Darlington. It’s been a busy summer for Altrincham who recently announced a board restructure which saw Mark Luby appointed as chairman.

There’s a number of Vale connections over the years –  Lee Sinnott has managed both clubs while players to appear for both include Anthony Griffith, Simon Richman, James Lawrie, Kyle Perry, Ryan Brown and Michael Twiss. One of the more recent moves saw Vale youngster Eden Bailey join Altrincham back in 2022.

Last time we met…

The Valiants took on Altrincham in a friendly game in 2015 which saw Vale triumph 2-1 thanks to goals from Colin Daniel and Uche Ikpeazu.
