Former Valiants: James Wilson is signed by Northampton Town
Port Vale’s former striker – the talented but injury prone James Wilson has signed for Northampton Town on a one-year deal.
Born in Biddulph the striker joined Vale in June 2021. He scored fifteen times in his first season. Hitting form at the end of the season, he played a major part in Vale’s promotion including scoring memorably in the 2022 play-off final win at Wembley.
However, his second season was hit by injury as he made just 27 appearances, scoring four times and he was released in the summer of 2023 before, with Vale desperately short of strikers, Wilson was surprisingly handed a new deal.
Wilson scored four times last season before being released in April. He totalled 23 goals from 105 games for the Valiants.
“He has an excellent pedigree and is a good age,” Northampton boss Jon Brady told the official website.
“He has undoubted quality and is a little different to the players we have in the squad. He can play up front or in behind the strikers, he is technically very good and a very intelligent player.”
