Andy Crosby on Port Vale’s League Cup win – “an amazing achievement”
Port Vale manager Andy Crosby was delighted to see his team progress into the last eight of the Football League Cup and said it’s a “reward for everyone connected with the club.”
The Valiants beat Mansfield Town 1-0 thanks to a goal by Alfie Devine which puts Vale into the hat for the final eight draw.
It’s a reward for a group of players and staff who’ve made history. To get to the last eight of the Carabao Cup is an amazing achievement…
Speaking to the media after the game Crosby said: “It feels incredible. It’s a reward for everyone connected with the football clubs, for Carol and Kevin, what they’ve inherited and what they’ve inherited and what they’ve now grown and developed both on and off the pitch. It’s a reward for everyone who works at the football clubs. It’s a reward for a group of players and staff who’ve made history. To get to the last eight of the Carabao Cup is an amazing achievement.
“Our levels of performances and results has been poor. We were poor on Saturday and we admitted it and there’s a lot of frustration from all of us. The only place you can respond is not with words but out on the pitch where it measures. Every single player was immense. We had to go right to the end. We were deserved winners.”
The manager also paid tribute to matchwinner Devine saying: “It was an outstanding goal. A young player who is earning the trust of everyone through his performances, the way he is conducting himself.”
