The Valiant newsletter has published the identity of the three trialists to play in the Vale’s latest friendly game.
Mike Baggaley’s well-informed publication states that the three trialists during the 3-1 win over Wigan were:
- 28 year-old left-sided Dutch defender Lewis Montsma
- Former Ipswich and Huddersfield striker Tyreece Simpson
- Former Northampton defender Aaron McGowan
All three seem to make sense. The Valiants currently only have three experienced central defenders in Jasper Moon, Connor Hall and Cameron Humphreys so another body at the back would make sense.
McGowan will be well-known to Brady having spent four years at Sixfields. Montsma earned praise while playing for Lincoln, Simpson had an eye catching and prolific loan spell at Swindon.
All three will have negatives as well as positives – Monsma has had serious injury problems over the yers while Simpson has never recaptured his Swindon form – but that is why Vale are trialing the players before reaching any decision. Whether any of the trio will be offered a permanent deal is still subject to debate.
