Respected Port Vale commentator George Andrews passes away
George Andrews whose commentary on Port Vale games were regarded as cult classsics has sadly passed away, the club has announced.
Andrews’ commentaries on local radio during the John Rudge glory days were so popular that they spawned a VHS video “The Roof’s Fallen In” and some of his commentaries (notably Ian Bogie’s early strike against Stoke City) have passed into Port Vale legend.
Andrews started filing pieces to BBC Radio Stoke from Stafford Rangers back in 1981 and moved on to commentate on both Stoke City and Port Vale games for several local stations. He became well known for his extravagant and eccentric dress sense as well as his unique commentary style.
We are saddened to learn of the passing of broadcast legend, George Andrews.
An ever-present figure in the Vale Park press box, George will be sadly missed by all.
We send our love and thoughts to George's wife, Christine and his family and friends.
